(re-eddited after some needed sleep.)

Problem : Complete black screen after modification to (any) VGA drivers.

Cause : Wrong VGA output is used.

Solution : You need to plug-in the monitor before powering up your box on the correct VGA output. Not while it is running.

(Pfffff.....)

Weeks I have been trying.. But everytime I actually got to :

<string>IONDRVDevice</string>

and modified it into :

<string>IOPCIDevice</string>

Just before the login my screen would go black completely and no changes would change it.

Now the solution is so simple that I bang my head against the walls trying to understand my stupidness..

I write this for all others getting the same problems and not having them do the same...

I finaly found a solution.. It might be answered before on the forum but I haven't been able to find it...

The case :

When loading the driver, the output which is getting selected is not the VGA output but the DVI output. (in my case.. Might be reversed for others..)

Now just switching the cables doesn't work. The card sees if the output is filled with a connection. The BOX needs to be booted with the cable on the DVI. (I use a DVI->VGA converter to get my monitor hooked up.)

I can finally rest now.... (a bit because I have no 1158*768*32@85Hz which is my preferred resolution.)

mate, you could somehow tell us what exactly you're trying to say, ie; why you have black screen (cause)? are you talking 'bout ati driver? which kext those strings came from? what driver are you talkin' 'bout? what hardware you have? coz' you have it all vague! maybe you could put it step-by-step (might help others here)...
