I am a PC type of guy with no Unix or MAC background. I have set up a Hackintosh dual boot system on an Intel 915PBL Motherboard and just about everything works properly except for my Nvidia 6200LE graphics card (I intend to replace this with an ATI 1600 as suggested on the forums). My problem is that with the JAS 10.4.6 > 10.4.7 OSX86 install my initial boot is small (80*50 I think) text. Is there some way to get a graphic boot?

Also the DVD player wont initialize but I assume this is related to the Nvidia card. If not any suggestions?

Thanks from a guy with no MAC smarts.

Then you must not have any networking capability either because the plists for them are also stored in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration

Are you sure you looked in Preferences because there is also a PreferencePanes folder?

Not sure how you can operate without that folder, your installation is suspect.

Finder "Find" command probably won't find it because Apple thought returning system files in searches would be too much information and result in inexperienced people messing where they shouldn't.

Easiest way is to drag it to the Desktop where it will make a copy.

Edit the copy and drag it back. You should get 2 dialogs: one asking if you want to replace and another asking you to Authenticate. Click that and give your password.

Then to be sure permissions aren't screwed, go to the Utilities folder and run Disk Utility. Click on your OSX partition on the left and Repair Permissions on the right.

OK. I've found how to "overwrite read only files" but now I am told I do not have premission to save files in the folder. Boy this is a lot more complex than it looks!

That worked but the system is still booting into text mode till the apple desktop appears :-(
