Hey guys,

i have a EP45-UD3R HACKINTOSH, and i use it for audio engineering i installed via the kakewalk 3.0 method and updated to 10.6.5 through combo update sound alone dint work.. i used ##### realteck 8xxx kext , before that i did not remove applehda.kext and also installed voodoo so i got a kp.. so booted in -v mode and deleted voodoo and installed the realtek 8xxx kext from ##### and removed applehda sound is now working.. BUT NOW THE VOLUME IS TOO LOW!! i can normally listen to songs but when i connect my firewire audo interface saffire pro 14 and try to record vocals though a audio technica AT2035 cardoid condersor mic.. i can barely hear anything with the volume knob set to full i turned on my monitors to full volume and i can hear something..

Now im unable to reacord anything into it as the volume is too low.. pls help me on how to get this issue solved, i tried recording in protools 9 hd and ableton live lite 8 both had the same issue.. WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW TO GET SOUND?? IF I HAVE INSTALLED THE WRONG KEXT WILL THE SOUND BE AFFECTED EVEN THOUGH A EXTERNAL INTERFACE??? PLS HELP ME.. AS I HAVE TO GET MY STUDIO READY SOON MOBO: EP45-UD3R

I have installed many hacs using saffire interfaces without any problems.

1. install all vanilla - daw´s love proper installs

2. check what chip you have on your firewire card. no issues with TI chips!

3. don´t install any patched audio kexts before you have your saffire running properly.

4. if you still need your onboard audio after all, install it and if problems appear, you still will remember the last changes.

here is an old guide how I installed all the machines, maybe you will find some useful hints:

Hey peach,

thanks for the info, i tried disabling the onboard audio and sound seemed a bit better but i think my repair guy has screwed up soldering the nutrick xlr's becuase of the faulty soldering i think its not working.. but anyways how does the volume control work in saffire interfaces.. i have to set them really high to listen anything in my speakers i should try them with a pair of studio monitors but dont have the money right now.. so do u recommend that i remove the onboard audio kexts.. or reinstall the whole thing.. i used kakewalk 3.0 method which has everything ready for a hackintosh.. how do u suggest i install it.. i saw your post but i was for leopard.. SL 10.6.5 is a bit different from them rite??

and my firewire card is Texas instrument chipset 67HA2HDW TSB43AB22A G4 but its not detected, as far as installing my saffire goes how to do u suggest i install it.. do i format my system and do a vannila install with ##### and ##### or rite now i have protools 9 hd installed how must i configure my system so that the audio works great.. or do the saffire's monitor volume control respond only after level 5 or something?? pls suggest me a way u did to get the audio working great,, PS: i need 10.6.5 coz of protools 9 and logic studio 9

thanks a ton..

Hi im using the saffire pro 14 and im connecting it through firewire 400 cable that came with it,

I tried a few thing s after i saw your post and others at kakewalk forum.

My default device is saffire in prefs and in protools 9 daw

when i was recording vocals i click on instrument under the settings in mix control there was a slight improvement but my gain level was at 4 and it was reasonably good.. and i found out that when i connect my pc speakers or my stereo system just the right speaker is working but when i play through itunes the volume level is pretty good. and when i play it in protools it seems a bit low but the demo project sounds good and in prefs it says the selcted device has no output conrols and same in input as well.. is there anything i can do in saffire mix contol to enable the input volume to be better.. i cheked in protools the volume is in 0db level and i can listen only when my monitor volume is in full.. but i connect my speakers to 1st line out jack through a 1/4 in converter.. i installed many kexts for audio not knowing what to do and may have messed up my settings..

And when i was working with RTA plugins in protools it was working fine first but then the sound became distroted i tried other ones but still no use.. it was distroted;; is there something wrong in my build... im planning to reinstall my os again.. through my stereo speakers there was a little better output.. i want to reinstall my os and install saffire 1st and then see if it has any better option.. My mobo is a Gigabyte Ep45-UD3R pls suggest a vannila install method for this so i'll get a good daw performance is the Tonymac's ##### + ##### method ok.. pls let me know so i can fix everything and get this overwith

if you did read my guide carefully, you could read about the backup strategy as well. this includes a second install for maintenance in case something goes wrong. if you agree with that, the described method is anyway is the best for you.

I´m not familiar with kakewalk, ##### etc. because I never used it, but I ´ve read about a lot of probs people using it.

the difference is that with the daw guide you have full control. you start with a proper vanilla install and apply needed changes step by step. after every step you could check the system for problems, so you know immediately the reason for. if you use already patched extensions an scripts to install it is hard to figure out where a problem might come from.

thanks man... i read that however i got a pretty good guide for snow leo with working drivers.. i used the kakewalk3.0 which was made for this mobo specifically.. and my xlr jacks were improperly soldered.. i'll resolder it and see if that changes anything.. if it doesnt then i'll use a vannila install.. coz a guy used the kakewalk method and it works great for him...lets see..
