slightly_hackish
I just upgraded my laptop to a 500GB hard drive, and need to start using OSX to get familiar with it, but I really don't want to have to reinstall windows/ubuntu to get it working. I have installed iATKOS to a new extended partition, but every time I try to boot I get a kernel panic (I can't remember exactly what the panic was about, I was hoping it would be in /var/log, but kernel.log and system.log are empty). I'm assuming the panic was due to OSX being on an extended partition. Here's my current partition scheme (from linux fdisk): Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 1 13 102400 7 HPFS/NTFS /dev/sda2 13 26939 216282112 7 HPFS/NTFS /dev/sda3 * 26939 55010 225478656 83 Linux /dev/sda4 55010 60802 46522368 5 Extended /dev/sda5 60278 60802 4207616 82 Linux swap / Solaris /dev/sda6 55010 60278 42312704 af HFS / HFS+ sda1 is a (hidden) system parition for win7, sda2 is the actual win7 parition, sda3 is Ubuntu 10.10, and sda4 is the extended partition, so those are my 4 primary partitions (using MBR). Is it possible to use Chameleon to load iATKOS from an extended partition? The other issue being that I currently have no write access to the HFS+ partition, because the linux driver can't work with journaling, and I didn't want to screw up the journal. My current (auto generated) grub.cfg: http://pastebin.com/xahU3Nhk Thanks for any help you can provide! EDIT: The exact panic message is: panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff80004eb611): "A kext releasing a(n) OSArray has corrupted the registry."@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1504.3.12/libkern/c++/OSObject.cpp:244 Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/241892-no-video-on-2-different-systems-wiatkos/ Share on other sites
slightly_hackish
Alright, I got that resolved, the error was unrelated to the partitions, I had to use the 32-bit RTC driver. Guess that's what happens when you assume! But, now i have no video, I get through the command line section and then it goes to a black screen. Not really sure what to do from here. The system: Dell XPS M1530 C2D 2.4GHz 4GB DDR2@667MHz PM965 Chipset Nvidia 8600M GT onboard I'm also getting the same thing (blank screen) on my desktop: Asus P5Q SE/R mobo C2Q Q6600 2.4GHz P35 chipset ATi Radeon 3870 (IIRC) 6GB (2x2GB,2x4GB) DDR2@800MHz On the desktop, I can tell the BIOS to boot from the hard drive that has (only) OSX on it and boot through Chameleon, but that does the same thing. The laptop I haven't been able to successfully boot Chameleon by chainloading through grub, every time I try I get this rather cryptic message: l to restart rt Should I try ##### and my retail disc? Or is this just some configuration thing?
