BlueHedgehog
I have installed a program on my iPhone called MyWi 4.0. It lets a user "tether" the iPhone's internet connection (Wi-Fi or 3G) to the computer either using USB or by a Wi-Fi hotspot broadcasted by the iPhone. So far I love the program for it's usefulness (especially when I'm trying to have internet on my OSx86 laptop) So what's the problem here? I've been getting some random kernel panics when I connect my iPhone via USB for internet tethering (the KP doesn't happen instantly). By random I mean that I could get the KP whether I'm streaming YouTube videos or simply browsing the internet (forums, email, etc.) using the same connection. The KP could also happen 15, 30, or 45 minutes after I connect my iPhone. I then enabled verbose boot ("-v" flag) to see some information in case I get a KP again. The KPs I get are always related to "IONetworkingFamily". I am running OS X on my Acer laptop in 64-bit mode. However, the problem disappears when I boot in 32-bit mode (I don't get KPs anymore). But when I boot in 64-bit mode, I then get the same KPs again. Does anyone know why I get those KPs only in 64-bit mode and does anyone know of a solution or at least a better workaround to fix this? P.S. I have posted a screenshot of the KP taken using the iPhone's camera. AnonMac
I'm not sure about the solution, but the I think I know the problem. It seems the network driver was not compiled for 64-bit mode, or was poorly written. I think you should make it default to boot in 32-bit mode. Most real Macs do that as well. In fact, most are only capable of 32-bit mode (although most have a 64-bit CPU). Those that can run it, usually have it 32-bit mode stock.
