I have a bit of an odd issue that I was hoping for some help on.

I've lurked on the site for several months, and already hackintoshed(?) my Dell 10 netbook successfully. As my aged imac was on its last legs I decided to build a new rig to replace it and, based on my comfort level (moderate only) I elected to follow the life hacker guide, 3rd revision, Adam Pash wrote. My rig is essentially the same as that one with a couple of adjustments which, I believe, should not be causing the problem I'm seeing.

I have the following: ASUS P7P55D-E Pro ATX Intel Motherboard, EVGA GeForce 9500 GT 01G-P3-N959-TR Video Card, Intel Core i7-860 2.8GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor, G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory, Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive, LITE-ON DVD Model iHAS224-06. I used a less expensive case and power supply, both coolermaster, and did not get the SSD drive since cost was an issue.

I completed the installation as outlined, including the upgrade to 10.6.4, using the ##### - ##### package method, with 1 exception, I used the updated ##### installer that came out after the guide was written. Per an inquiry I posted to tonymac and adam this should not be causing this issue.

My issue is simple. I have sound normally through the front audio port but, through the audio ports on the back of the machine I'm getting no sound at all. I've done a complete install, then a complete reinstall, plus I've updated/replaced the audio files via kext installer using Realtek R1000SL.kext again, in addition. Still no luck.

My guess at this point is that the audio in the MB is likely defective, but I don't want to tear this thing apart and return the mobo if I can find a quicker fix.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

AFAIK your audio chipset is the VIA VT1828S.......rather than a Realtek chipset........

Good point. I will look for driver's for audio on this specific chipset to see if switching it out helps. Per the guide though the Real driver's should mean the audio behaves normally which is why I followed those steps exactly.

Thanks for the response, you've given me something else to try that does not involve tearing this entire box down and starting again.
