Here are the specs of my latest laptop. Its a work laptop. I didnt let that stop me.

Intel® Core™ i7-620M Processor (2.66 GHz, 4 MB L3 cache)

NVIDIA Quadro FX 2800M graphics with 1 GB dedicated GDDR3 video memory

17.0" diagonal LED-backlit WXGA+ anti-glare

SATA II (7200 rpm) 250 GB

The install was pretty easy actually. I did read a few post on here about a very similar laptop, the 8540W. But there was only one guide that I went by plus a few pointers from the other post.

I used ##### + ##### and my retail 10.6.3 DVD.

The only gotchas were that I didnt have trackpad while installing, so I had to learn from one of the posts about how to navigate with just the keyboard. Interestingly enough, once I navigated to screen sharing section, I just clicked the ticker and used vnc from another laptop and installed that way.

So I got everything working,

Bluetooth and video worked out the box.

used ##### to get wired lan working and some other things I cant remember.

Not working, Wireless, but thats easy as I have an older hac with a compatible mini card Ill swap in.

When done Ill have a dual booting win7 + 10.6.5 install.

Hi, I'm running 10.6.5 on 1 hdd and Windows 7 on the other hdd. Works great!

I only have one problem and that's controlling the USB-ports, when I boot up Snow Leopard than only the USB 3.0 ports are working. I have to run ##### and restart the notebook without any USB devices connected to get it working again. I was wondering if you've got these problem too?

I have a similiar issue, but for me the normal USB-ports work but not the USB 3.0. I cant get the USB 3.0 to work at all.

If you have the same laptop, how does your video perform? Ive noticed that the video card is super studdery when using programs like front row or quicktime.

Update

Some guy on tonymacx86 helped me with my video studdering issue. Now my HP x86 install is almost perfect. For some reason I cant get the trackpad to work even though it did with voodootrackpad for one of my tests. But my latest install where I went from 10.6.3 to 10.6.6 using ##### and ##### and then rolled back the usb and did the usb3 and then the fix the guy told me about, Im sitting on a perfect laptop. Its fast and powerful, just the way macs should be.

hello,

i recently bought an8740w elitebook and followed your example but so far the only things i dont have working are the trackpad, the older usb ports (3.0 work fine except i get a kernal panic when i unplug a usb anything), and the audio is unmanageable and stuck to the same volume. also the keyboard only works when i boot from ##### legacy.

any way u can guide me to get this laptop as functional as possible?

ps. i have a tri-boot of snow leopard, Win7, and Linux Mint
