So here's the current situation with my Hackintosh build.

I'm getting stuck pre-install on partitioning the drive.

When i get to the install screen and its time to format my drive I go to disk utilities, partition, name it hackintosh, guid partition and so on but... It seems to freeze on "unmounting the disk", if i hit enter within the first 10 seconds or so it moves to the next step but freezes on "partitioning the disk" any suggestions? ideas whats going on? Heres my pc build...

ASUS Sabertooth x58 MOBO

6GB Patriot Memory

Intel i7 930

1 TB Seagate Barracuda HDD (SATA)

NVidia GeForce GTX 460

Here are the codes i input at the ##### screen:

-x -v -f -legacy cpus=1 busratio=21

If I don't put -x and -v i'll never get to the install screen.

Any help is appreciated, I know its not my HDD cuz ive seen it listed on other Hackintosh builds on this forum, I also have my CD/DVD drive connected via sata wire to sata port1 and my hdd connected via sata wire to sata port2 and no other hdd or usb devices are connected.

Any help is appreciated THANK YOU!

Hi,

I am somewhat of a novice at this but I did just recently install OSX 10.6.5 on a similar system. First I used iATKOS S3. I figured it worked on my previous build so why not this one. It turns out I managed to get to the Hardware Info screen under utilities and there are at least 2 devices that come up with ERROR: Unknown Device.

197b:2362 JMicron Technology Corp. ERROR: Unknown Device (I believe this is the JMicron JMB362 : Serial ATA-300)

1b4b:9123 ERROR:Unknown Vendor Error: Unknown Device (I belive this is the Marvell 88SE9128 : Serial ATA-600)

Even after install I couldnt make iATKOS S3 boot without something failing (no keyboard, no mouse, no screen, kp, etc). Eventually I gave up and started looking for a "cleaner" option. I went and found that on OSX86 Wiki there was someone that had a successful install with Psystar Rebel EFI boot-loader + ##### and a USB OS X copy. I eventually ended up looking for EmpireEFI CD which led me to nawcom bootCD. With the nawcom bootCD+##### with a USB OS X 10.6, I was able to install with mach_kernel -v. After my first boot, I booted with -v -f and completed my install and immediately upgraded to 10.6.5 and before rebooting ran #####. It seems to boot fine now(occasionally it will kp).

For the most part this gave me a working system but, the SATA Devices are listed as unknown (but they work) and there is no sound (Realtek ALC892 Audio - there are workarounds if you dont mind static). Networking, drive access, USB(havent tested 3.0) all work fine.

I continue to look for ways to fix the sata issue and I have been looking into a custom DSDT to make it all work better.

Hopefully this helps.

Thanks for the reply Speedbump858!

I just DLed Nawcom Bootcd and i'm going to try installing again, just one question since im still a noob at this.

You said you installed with mach_kernel -v. Does that mean you typed mach_kernel -v into the terminal after formatting the drive? or did you type that on the boot screen before loading mac osx6? My main problem was before the installation it seems like my hdd could not be unmounted, I wish i could get past the formatting and begin the install. I'm going to try to install later on today. Thanks for all your help!

I followed your steps but when running the flashdrive the pc reboots. Do you have any suggestions? Anything I should change in the bios.

Thanks

I figured out my problem.

On the sabertooth x58 motherboard you have to plug your sata wires into the 6gb/sec sata inputs.

So my setup is like this:

Dvd drive in SATA 1 (6gb/sec)

HDD in SATA 2 (6gb/sec)

I didnt get the "waiting for root device" error any more and installation was easy after that.

After installation i plugged my dvd drive back into the 3gb/sec sata port 1 and plugged in my hackintosh hdd into sata pore 1(6gb/sec) and my other windows 7 hdd into sata port 2 (6gb/sec).

By the way this mobo only has 2 Sata ports for 6gb/sec.

Thanks speedbump for your help!
