[Guide] Kernel Panic IOFireWire Solution while installing Snow Leopard

After repeated install and reinstall of snow leopard on my laptop Toshiba L310. I found this might help other with similar problem.

 

If you got KP on -v boot with line like this:

IOFireWireFamily .. unable to get memory.

 

On PC you could disable FireWire on BIOS, but on Laptop with limited BIOS setting some might unable to do this.

 

Here some work around solution:

 

If you use distros like iatkos s3 v2, or others perhaps:

 

Select mach_pcj kernel

-> Boot with this flag "mach_pcj" (without quotes).

 

PS: You will able to install smoothly, but you might get late Mouse and Keyboard response first time when booting. You'll have to wait 3-5 minutes to type keyboard or to get a mouse click.

Solution: remove or disable IOFireWireFamily.kext (don't forget rebuild Extensions.mkext too and reboot)

For retail DVD:

You don't have mach_pcj so to boot you'll have to edit your installation file (dvd) too add mach_pcj kernel (replace it with the default mach_kernel) or disable the IOFireWireFamily.kext. If this too hard for you, you might consider to use distros DVD like above.

 

You not really have to use mach_pcj kernel, it just help to stay alive (no KP) not like other kernels.

If you prefer other kernel, just dont forget to get that FireWire kext disabled.
