xaffinityx
I currently have a decent windows/ubuntu AMD build. I can't afford to buy new hardware at the moment, but would like to try to get OSX running on this current machine. I have a few questions I was hoping to have answered. 1. Has there been success with AMD Hackintosh builds? 2. Should I be looking to install any particular version of OSX for an AMD build? 3. Where is the best place to look to get 3rd party drivers? I've tried reading up about EF, DSDT, etc. but it's a bit foreign to me. I hate to be that guy that seems to come onto a forum without googleing and doing his research, but I've spent a lot of time and tried using some versions of OSX on another AMD build without any luck. I appreciate an help, suggestions, or guidance. The current build is as follows: Motherboard: BIOSTAR TA890FXE CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Audio Chipset: Realtek ALC892 LAN Chipset: Realtek 8111DL RAM: Kingston HyperX T1 Series 6GB Video Card: SAPPHIRE 100314SR Radeon HD 6870 RAID 0: 2x WD Caviar Black 1TB I also have a couple spare hard drives laying around if it would be easier to install OSX onto it's own hard drive and just boot from that drive when I needed to run it. Thank you again for your help. Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/239079-amd-hackintosh-build/ Share on other sites

Freecat68
Hi there I was able to get a AMD Hackintosh going no problem on this hardware. Motherboard-- msi 770-g45 CPU--AMD athlon X4 3.0GHz 640 RAM-- 2GB Kingston DDR3 1600 Network--realtek 8139 pci Video-- BFG Nvidia gxt260 PCIE 896GB GDDR3 Everything works to I used the Hazard SL client/server distro and used this howto http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofiversi...hp/t213367.html Remember your hardware is different so different packages will need to be installed at the customize phase of the install. Research your hardware for compatibility first. xaffinityx
Thank you very much for the reply's. I'll definitely look into the links and see if I can get my machine up and working. Is the Hazard SL the best distro to go with for AMD? Specifically on a AMD 890FX motherboard? Thanks Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/239079-amd-hackintosh-build/#findComment-1597078 Share on other sites

apatsufas
Both should work. Choose one and see how it goes and if it doesn't work try the other. I should point out that the Radeon 6870 is not supported. And I would use a hard disk only for OSX, it's easier to install this way. xaffinityx
Yeah I figured it wouldn't be. Do you think it will still work and I just won't have GPU acceleration or what are the draw backs? Is there a possibility of a kext or something being released to bring support for the 6870? Is there a possibility of a kext or something being released to bring support for the 6870? It will work and you might, with some workarounds, get the resolution to change. QE/CL doesn't work, for now at least. There is a thread on this forum about the card, you can look there how far others have gotten. But you'll probably have to wait until apple releases a kext. iKip
I am contemplating the AMD Hackintosh build i have been doing some research and found that the problems where specific to the kernels being used. Evidently there is a new Kernel the "Modbin" Kernel. Here is a link: http://www.hackersenigma.com/ethic [...] d-on-a-pc/ I would be really excited if i had some more assurance that this could be pulled off with out too much trouble though it looks like many of you are running into problems.. I am a 20 year Apple user but have recently discovered Linux which looks like a very viable alternative. I know I will probably be using Windows 7 "just because" To get my system up and running and stable.I used to feel like a fringe user but now the tides are turning fast.. Apple is becoming mainstream. I suspect though its only speculation that Jobs may be contemplating making availble to the masses distrubutions of OSX that will comply with what ever system you decide to build. The reason i say this is because Linux is upping its game as the Droid OS ( I have a Droid Captivate TYVM) is stellar in speed, gui, and every other application you can think of. Having said al that hats off to al you Die hard hackers and thank you for reading my post. Here's what my build consists of thus far: CPU: AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition (Locked 955 Quad Core) 3.2ghz MO/BO: ASUS M4A89 GTD -PRO AM3 PSU: Corsair TX 750 RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) STORAGE: 1.) Primary* SAMSUNG 470 Series MZ-5PA128/US 2.5" 128GB SATA II Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) 2.) Secondary* Western Digital Caviar Black WD5001AALS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive Drive Bay's: 1.) SAMSUNG Black 22X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 16X DVD+R DL 22X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA DVD Burner LightScribe Support - OEM CASE:Corsair Graphite Series 600T Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case. ***** I haven't picked out a GPU yet Im still trying to decide what will work best with this set up. I believe the Board supports Crossfire but i want to start off slow with a conservative GPU that will give me some fun but wont break the bank. If you have any information will be most helpful. Thank you ~ iKip Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/239079-amd-hackintosh-build/#findComment-1601888 Share on other sites
RemyR
I know this thread is 2 months old but I was just wondering if you ever got your 890 based AMD OSx86 build up in running. I am currently running a Phenom II x2 550 Black Edition (unlocked to x4)/MA785GM-U2SH based one with no problems at all with OS X 10.6.6. Even my Radeon HD 4670 fully works with the 2 Ati HD drivers from the Snowleo distro. Only options that weren't pre selected on the install are the 2 Radeon HD drivers and the RL8111 ethernet driver. I am about to build a TA890FXE based six core system and was curious as to if you got your 890 board up and running as I didn't see the board on the 10.6.6 HCL yet.
