twoflutz
So being price constrained as I am, I wasn't willing to let go of my Dell B130 Hackbook even when it was clear I needed to update to Snow Leopard for some of my software to work. I've had it running 10.5.8 from iPC for a long time and was happy with it other than a few issues (Fonts turned to black boxes occasionally in my most needed software, wifi and ethernet would drop connection and need to be reconnected every 15 mins or so, etc) I used the following guide for 10.5.8 and in snow I needed several of these kexts that were already modified. Site: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofiversi.....:/t51881.html As a base, I started with iPortable Snow installed on an 8GB usb stick. First run on the B130 results in a Kernel panic. SOLUTION: find and remove ElliotEnableLegacyRTC.kext. The usb stick will now boot into Snow using the default chocolate_kernel. Add the following kexts: AppleIntegratedFrameBuffer, AppleIntelGMA950, VoodooPower, VoodooBattery, VoodooHDA, BCM4....(cant remember, will fill in this afternoon) Now, this is not a perfect machine. There are clearly some graphical issues with icons not showing up alot of times, some wierd space inserted into each button throughout the OS, wifi no longer works (Was using VoodooIntel2200BG which doesn't look like it is supported in Snow yet) and QE doesn't look to be enabled (3d accelleration worked before but now anything 3d is dog slow) and the perference panel causes a kernel panic!(but you can get into it if you add a prefpane to the toolbar instead of the std pref panel icon, and you can then click show all and get around) I'm looking forward to sorting these issues out, but for now I have snow leopard on my Dell B130 in 1280x800 with working (though still crackly) audio, ethernet, battery meter, sleep (need the corner trick to wake) and NO MORE BLACK BOX FONTS!!! WOOHOO! Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/238930-got-snow-working-on-the-old-dell-b130/ Share on other sites
