"32bit Only" Ethernet?

There seem to be a fair number of cases where onboard ethernet only works when SL is booted in 32bit. My question:

ARE THERE ANY GENERAL TECHNIQUES FOR RESTORING/ENABLING ETHERNET IN 64BIT?

My particular setup:

Asus P5L-MX

Intel E4300 (overclocked to 2.9 Ghz)

SL 10.6.4

ATI 4650 512mb (QE/CI enabled)

2GB Ram

*Ethernet runs fine with AttansicL1 kext under 32bit, but fails under 64bit.
