Snow Leopard 10.6.5 Update Problem

Hey guys,

 

I recently ran a system update on my "hackintosh" and during the update, it downloaded the latest update for Snow Leopard: 10.6.5. Forgetting to install [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] again (From what I understood from the tonymacx86 site, I have to reinstall [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] after every major system update) after the download/install ( ), I clicked 'Restart Now'.

 

Now whenever I boot up to my Snow Leopard partition with [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] (previously installed after 10.6.4 update), I can't get past the 'Please restart your computer' Apple Message (AKA, Kernel Panic), written in about 6 different languages. When I boot up using the [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] DVD/CD, I get the same message!

 

I have tried all the boot flags I know (-x, -v, -s, -f) with no success.

 

Bottom line is, I just can't get back into my "hackintosh" partition.

You must delete SleepEnabler.kext (before upgrading is mandatory remove SleepEnabler.ket an reinstall it after the upgrade with a Sleepenabler of correct version)

How can I delete the kext without having access to the partition? Is there a Live CD/Application that I can use to do it? Would the terminal application/any application on the Snow Leopard Install Disc work?

You can use [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url], but rather than booting to your OSX partition put in the SL install CD and use the terminal in the SL install program.

Okay, but what would the commands be (I'm don't know much about terminal) to access the disk and then change the directory and delete the file?

what does the verbose "-v" stop on before the kernel panic?

most common problem with 10.6.5 is sleepenabler.kext.

I havent used tonymac's [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] but if I was to guess its using the same kexts from the same kext cache (extensions.mkext) to load your system once in its boot loader.

 

This will cause a panic at the same point.

 

easy way to tell if it is sleepenabler.kext is to boot using "-v" and see what the final kext to load before the panic is.

If it is as i suspect you have to replace the kext file with a new one made for 10.6.5 (there are loads floating round now - I used one from kexts.com). obviously after you've replaced it you need to make a new cache and reboot. or if you know your bootloader's commands better you can ignore the kext and do it in the gui.

 

Summary: verbose (-v) boot and see what it stops at before panic and debug.

 

If its not sleepenabler second most commond prob with 10.6.5 ive found is kernel issues

It did stop at the sleepenabler kext which is why I need to delete it (I forgot to delete it BEFORE clicking 'Restart Now').

 

Did you get this fixed? I'm curious.

 

I didn't try to fix it yet but I will as soon as possible. I will post my results under this topic when finished.

YES!

 

By deleting Sleepenabler.kext (/Extra/Extensions/SleepEnabler.kext) and the Kext Caches (/System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/Extensions.mkext), I was able to get back into my "Hackintosh"!

 

To fix it, I actually didn't need the Snow Leopard Install Disc; I used the Windows 7 partition and put MacDrive on it. Then, I was able to explore my entire HFS+ (Mac) partition and delete the files!

I have got the same problem.

I don't use [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] method but KakeWalk method.

I have just updated from 10.6.4 to 10.6.5 without patching.

Here are one pic from the verbose mode (thanks to my iphone).
