krackato
NoFilmSchool.com has a Hackintosh guide that is really, really indepth. I'm not affiliated with NoFilmSchool.com, so if there are affiliate links below, they're not mine and I'm too exhausted at the moment to hunt them all down and remove them. http://nofilmschool.com/build-a-hackintosh/where-to-buy/ He has a list of components available here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist...&reveal=all My goal is the same as what the article states. Being able to do film stuff, FCP, CS5, etc. What do you guys think? Would you change any of these parts? PARTS: Intel Core i7 Processor i7-930 2.80GHz 8 MB LGA1366 CPU Gigabyte LGA1366 SATA3 ATI CrossFireX ATX Motherboard GA-X58A-UD3R Corsair HX3X12G1600C9 XMS3 12 GB PC3-12800 1600Mhz 240-pin Triple Channel Core i7 DDR3 Antec P183 Advanced Super Mid Tower Shell Case Antec CP-850 850 Watt CPX Power Supply Unit LG Electronics 10X Blu-ray SATA Writer Drive with Software WH10LS30K - Bulk (Black) Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H50 All in One High-performance CPU Cooler CWCH50-1 OCZ Technology 60 GB SSD Vertex Series SATA II Solid State Drive Samsung 1 TB Spinpoint 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA D-Link DBT-120 Wireless Bluetooth 2.0 USB Adapter 2.5" To 3.5" Ssd/sata Convert For the graphics he recommends either the GTX 460, GTX 465, GTX 470, GTX 480, or GTX 580. ===== Okay, I think that's it. Mackilroy
A lot of the hardware looks pretty good, though does the 580 work? I know most of the 400-series cards do, but I haven't read anything about the 580. jkwonman
anything over 460 might be overkill, i think. from what i've heard, 460's are the most bang for the buck. If you have any recommendations on how to make this setup faster/more stable/better, please let me know. I have a PC build almost like this and have been running Final Cut Studio 3 and Logic Studio 9 on it as well as Native Instruments Komplete and other audio apps. I built my system last summer and the i7 920 was the only CPU around for <$300. Today I would go with the i7 950 and it is also <$300. Be sure the memory is triple channel capable and get DDR3 1600 or better. I would also go with at least the GA-EX58-UD5 motherboard and a powerful power supply(in case you choose multiple video cards or overclock the CPU) (Mine was 900 Watts) I also settled for the EVGA Invidia GTX+ video card. Everything looks identical to mine including the Hydro H-50 cooler. I also spend $30 bucks on a memory cooling fan set from OCZ. I used Kakewalk USB to load the RETAIL Snow Leopard DVD and updates work like a breeze. Snoop85
I used NFS guide as my main resource for components. I've swapped some items for newer, like CPU i7-950, H70 cooling, P193 case (altho be warned the H70 fan radiator makes the case side panel not fit, requires a lil modding), 1000W PSU and GTX 480 working fully! boot wise i used tonymacx86 files, all working a treat. Just trying to deciding on what SSD to buy? any suggestions?
