Hi Guys,

I was hoping someone could assist me with installing Snow Leopard on my laptop which is already running Windows 7.

I've tried following some instructions I found and have done the following.

Created a new partition in Windows 7

booted my computer with the EFI boot disk

swap DVD's and put in snow leopard retail.

open the osx disk utility and erase the new partition as the osx extended journaled type.

Then when I try to select the partition to install to I get the following;

To install on this disk, open Disk Utility by choosing utilities > Disk Utility, and repartition using "GUID Partition Table".

Now if I do this I know I'm going to lose my Windows install.

Can anyone please suggest how I can get this working without losing my Windows install?

Many thanks.

You'll have to modify the install DVD so that it will install on an MBR formatted drive.

There are several guides on how to do this. Use google or the forum search to find them.

Alternatively, use an external USB hard drive or a hacked distro DVD such as Hazard that has already been modified to install on an MBR drive.

Hi All,

I found nawcom's boot cd which seemed to work fine. I was able to install osx. Then my laptop rebooted and I added an entry for OSX using easybcd.

However when I boot OSX, I get some error, which I'm not sure how to resolve( I'm very new to this and still learning).

I took a screenshot during bootup. The last few lines, before it just freezes are

*********FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED ***********

launchctl: Please convert the following to launchd:/ ......

Waiting for DSMOS....

systemShutdown false

NVDANV50HAL loaded and configured

WARNING - ACPI_SMC_CtrlLoop:: InitCPUCtrlLoop - no sub-config.....

Then it just seems to sit there for AGES.... until I just gave up and turned off my laptop.

Any suggestions on how to get past this issue?

Many thanks!

Thanks Gringo and my apologies for not posing my specs earlier.

My specs are

Benq S41 laptop

4gb ram.

Marvell Yukon 88E8055 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller

NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS

Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 @2.0GHz ( MMX, SSE(1,2,3,3S) EM64T, VT-x)

Intel Wireless card ( I'll have to replace this as its not supported).

I have tried booting my install from the nawcom bootcd and I get the following errors.

It seems to load a bunch of kexts...

then I get

ACPI table not found: DSDT.aml

No DSDT found. using 0 as uid value.

Using PCI-Root-UID value: 0.

Then it just freezes.

Many thanks again.

Those messages are from the Chameleon boot-loader, they are not error messages, it's merely informing you what it's doing.

Normally the PCI root is specified in DSDT.aml and Chameleon tries to read it from that. As it can't find a DSDT.aml, it sets the default PCI Root of 0.

Unless your PCI-root is in fact 1, then this should not be a problem. If you want to try overriding it, boot with PCIroot=1. However, this should make no difference if your boot CD is not using GraphicsEnabler=y and/or EthernetBuiltIn=y.

If the above doesn't make any sense to you at all, go to the Voodoo Projects Chameleon forum and read the Chameleon documentation in the sticky posts there.

Anyway;

For some reason Chameleon can't boot your installation, the last message you see is normally the last message from Chameleon after it starts to boot the system itself.

You can try downloading other boot CDs (#####, Myhack, Empire EFI for example) and see if one of them can boot your installation.

I'm sorry I don't have any other ideas for you right now.

In the meantime, Try typing BenQ S41 in the search box above, there are many hits for it.

Be careful though, it seems there are several flavors of the S41 with different hardware.

Hi Gringo,

Your reply was very helpful, once again, my thanks.

I managed to get OSX to load up by booting off the EFI boot cd. :)

The question I have now is how can I get OSX to boot without having to have a DVD in the drive?

easybcd seems to be failing. I was thinking I could install the version of chameleon that is on the EFI boot cd? I'm just worried about somehow loosing my ability to get to Windows....

once again, thanks!

EDIT: I went ahead and installed the Chameleon RC5 bootloader along with the MyHack installation package which comes with the nawcom bootcd. Now when I start my computer all I could see was an underscore(_) on my screen. I had to boot off my nawcom CD again and load windows and make it the active partition so I could get into windows.... any ideas?

ok,

Some more progress has been made. It seems now that If I use easyBCD I can Select my OSX partition and I get to the Chameleon boot loader and I can load Snow Leopard!! ^_^

The strange thing I have noticed is when I boot off my nawcom cd which uses Chameleon 2. RC5, My graphics card and sound card are detected.

However when I boot via the version of Chameleon installed. My graphics card isn't detected and I have no sound. I noticed that the installed version is 2 RC4 ( not RC5). The thing is, I tried installing RC5 via both a direct installer and the version the MyHack installs, but RC$ is still installed. Could it be installing it to another place? or perhaps it just can't update...

I'm rather confused.

Many Thanks.

It's not strange at all.

Chameleon is not just a bootloader, it does much more than just boot OS X on your PC.

Besides the bootloader itself, a Chameleon boot CD contains kernel extensions and configuration settings. The reason that your hardware works with one CD and not with another is because by a complete stroke of luck, the files and configuration settings on one boot CD suits your hardware better than the other.

You need to replicate the configuration of the working boot CD to the Chameleon installation on your hard drive.

Visit the VoodooProjects Chameleon forum and read the Chameleon documentation to learn how this works.

Google for a "how to make a Chameleon boot CD" guide to learn how a boot CD is put together, so that you can take yours apart in order to get the files you need from it.

I don't know why you have RC4 installed when you've installed RC5. Maybe Chameleon is installed in two different places. There is no way for me to tell from here, this is for you to sort out...

Good luck.

Hello I saw this post and wonder if any of the above would work for me if I just cloned my SL to the second partition again. But actually any response is appreciated.

I have posted the below in another thread with no response.

1) I want to add SL OSX to an existing Windows XP pc (eee pc).

My resources:

-Retail SL DVD

-Two large USB flash drives (16GB and 8GB)

-Working Mac

-2.5" enclosure

-3.5" LaCie quad external drive, partition HFS+ and NTFS. FW/USB

-Working EEE PC with XP Home on it.

-Acronis TI software

-IQ between 50 and 52.

-I have tried various tutorials, patches, boot programs, trying to install my retail SL DVD, and even trying to install a cloned copy of my working SL.

The thing that seemed to be holding me trying this method involving a USB flash of SL or a retail SL DVD, is having an MBR structure of the XP hard drive, I think.

It prevents a fresh install of SL unless that second partition is GUID (regardless if the second partition is fats or hfs.

Using various installers, which included using my retail SL DVD or using an SL DVD image on my 16GB flash stick, when I reach the point of install, it fails because a GUID partition is required.

As I mentioned before, I tried to get around that by putting the eee pc harddrive in an external, then connecting to my mac. I went into disk utility, formatted the second partition of 125GB as HFS+ (as you know the option for GUID is not offered since it is a partition and not the disk). then I cloned a copy of my active SL to that partition using superduper (it even gave me an

the option to make it bootable).

Concerning the cloned partition, I reinstalled the harddrive back in my eee pc, I could not boot the OSX, even after using easyBCD or using chain0, or any other bootloaders. But I think my lack of expertise may have contributed to the failure perhaps. And yes, the SL was set active. I did try to repair XP mbr using a xp pro disk for another system that I had, but it would not repair.

Honsestly, after awhile all the information and steps that I tried have become quite convoluted, so I am back to start anew.

2) So I am requesting any input or comments or suggestions on how to put SL on my existing XP harddrive. Using either a retail SL or using a clone of SL. or whatever you want to throw out there

I apologize in advance if my post appears confusing. I think that there is sometimes so much information now on these installs that you get overwhelmed and mix up what you are doing.

Thanks all.
