farski
So I'm putting together a brand new system (EVGA x58 FTW3, i7 920, ATI5870), and I was surprised to see how well it ran the first time I booted it after install. Running just off the ##### cd, and after updating to 10.6.4, I had audio, dual LAN, video, etc all working perfectly. I even got USB3 working with just the patched kext. The only issue was it was only seeing 4 of the 12gb of ram. I've since switched over to an actual hard copy of Chameleon on the hard drive, with the set of extensions most people on x58 EVGA boards are using and I'm not getting any LAN or audio, and the video card isn't being recognized properly. I do have all 12gb of ram now, though. I pulled out, for example, the relevant realtek kext from the ##### cd that should get my LAN working, but it doesn't. How can ##### being working so well but my customized boot is missing so many things? What's the best way of figuring what I need to get working, if I know the larger pool of ##### kexts contains everything I need? banini_jeque
The best EVGA X58 guide I've found is here. You should be able to get the right LAN kext from there. Should be RealtekR1000SL.kext. Anyway, then the audio is ALC892, so you have to use VoodooHDA. 0.2.56 works well, and right now I've switched to 0.2.72 and it's working pretty well too. Make sure you delete AppleHDA otherwise it will probably panic. Also removing your audio device from your DSDT is a good idea. I have the SLI3 which is pretty close to the FTW3 in terms of running OS X. The real challenge is going to be getting native powermanagement/speedstep to work. That's why I'm helping you, because I'm hoping that the more people are using EVGA X58 boards that currently don't work with speedstep, the sooner someone will figure out how to make it work. I have a GTX 260, so I can't really help you with video.
