Boot with -v flag and post an image of the screen with the KP.

Pentium D is not supported by vanilla kernel.

Use patched kernel !

D

He used Legacy Kernel, not vanilla.

Unfortunately, by the image of the screen, is not possible understand what causes Kernel Panic.

I have managed to get snow leopard to boot with the iatkos distro the only problem I have now is that it wont find my hard drive or dvd drive I have the ICH8R running in auto mode not raid

You've booted to an install on your HDD or you've booted to the install disk?

Are the drives connected SATA or IDE? - EDIT - looks from the manual that they are SATA

Can you set to AHCI mode as apposed to auto?

The system is running from a USB drive and also the install disc.

The BIOS only has two options which are RAID AUTO-DETECT / ATA OR RAID ONLY

If you are already in Autodetect/ATA mode you should see the drives.

I presume you have checked in disk utility to see if the drives are present?

I have checked the disk utility just lists the USB drive and I have now tried booting from DVD and get the still waiting for root device message

Yeah I've tried the e520 boot cd still the same the strange thing is if I use the hazard distro it will pick up the hard drive but it won't boot on my system were as the iatkos won't find the hard drive but will boot on my system when installed on my USB drive

there must be some ATA kext in hazard. do some searching for IHC8R and ATA

maybe Netkas solution here may help. try installing to your USB install.
