Hi there,

I own several Macs, and also have had a Dell Mini 9 with OSX on it. But that was fairly straight forward.

Now I've got a new build I'm using as a server. I'll start by listing the specs.

Motherboard - Gigabyte X48-DQ6

CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

RAM - 4GB Kingston Hyper X DDR2

GPU - GeForce 8600GT

5 SATA drives

I used the ##### method (I think Chameleon?) and installed OS X Snow Leopard following 'tonymacx86' guide. It all went smoothly. Booted up fine. Everything worked out of the box except for the audio. I believe there are kexts for this though? Graphics card was recognised in system profiler, CPU was listed as a Quad Xeon (can't complain), ethernet was working, etc. But I needed the ##### to load the OS every time I restarted.

So then I proceeded to install '#####', as per the guide. To fix the boot off hard drive issue. After this, I could boot off the hard drive without the ##### disk BUT upon booting the OS, the video was at a low resolution, and the graphics card was no longer recognised, the CPU was listed as Unknown 2.4GHz, and I don't think ethernet was working anymore.

What did ##### do exactly to ruin everything?

Also side question, I'll be putting OSX Snow Leopard Server on it. I assume it's just the same as Snow Leopard and the guides will work all the same? Thanks.

If there are better options to install OSX with, please let me know.

Thank you!

You need a serial number for SL server and Snow Leopard Server will search the NIC while in the installation process…you must use the out of the box NIC

Fair enough. Was going to purchase a copy of Snow Leopard server (I'm actually an Apple Technician, and wanted to just playing around with Server so I could start setting them up in real world practices, etc). But if it requires a proprietary NIC, then no point I guess. Thanks but!

So I guess my main question still stands.
