soundiego
Hi Guys, I hope some can help me with this. I've spent hours reading posts and no one seems to report my problem. I have a Gigabyte GA EP35 DS3L F6 mobo that used to run some old 10.5.x distro. Now I have installed an original retail copy of 10.6.0 (came with my MacBookPro). I installed it from the notebook with the HD docked in a SATA-USB adapter. Then, once the disk was back in the PC, I setup the CMOS with AHCI, and other recommended settings, booted up with Easy EFI 2.2 (CD) and run the Chamelon v2.0 RC5pre12 r115 (this, read from the boot screen where I have to choose partition) Every Reboot I do, it resets the CMOS to factory settings. I read about patching the DSDT with DSDTSE. I extracted from system, and changed the length from 08 to 02 and deleted lines that talked about IRQNoFlag, in the RTC section, etc. While compiling there will be 600+ optimizations, two errors and one warning. The errors, in lines 285 and 290, about some Local0 that has to be "Local0" (all this taken from forums). I corrected that, compiled the DSDT and installed it in /Extra. I don't know if this is normal but a file DSDT.aml was never visible in /Extra (I checked the option), so the CMOS kept on resetting. Then I manually copied the DSDT to Extras and I could not boot it up again. Now I have two HDs so I can come and go and always have a good one to boot from and make changes on the other. Every time an DSDT.aml is in extra, the system makes a KP while booting. If I delete it, it boots but upon next restart, the CMOS is reset. I also tried compiling the DSDT exactly as DSDTSE extracts it from system and the errors also appear while compiling. So I am forced to correct them and when copied to Extra, it doesn't boot. I tried other DSDT editor program with exact results. Also when installing other DSDTs downloaded from people with same mobo. Is there anything you think I am doing wrong? Thank you all in advance. soundiego
UPDATE: when booting up with a DSDT in verbose mode (at this point, any DSDT will do the same), it will finish the text part and when it should show the log in screen (or desktop) the screen goes black. Could it be something with the screen? Because when booting without the DSDT.aml the screen only shows 1024x768. I'm using a 9400 GT 512MB with no patches yet. I also tried with several kexts and injections with no different result. It's my 5th hackint0sh and it has never been so hard even back at iAtkos times! Help will be very appreciated. soundiego
Send me your original DSDT Here it goes. It was extracted from system by DSDTSE and no modifications were made at all. It's not even possible to compile it without modifications due to two or three errors. An other thing that I noticed was that shutdown and sleep don't work. For some reason (some last verbose error, I believe) I deleted the applecpupowermanagement.kext (or something alike) from system/library/extensions. Thank you very much. MaLd0n
Do you need a clean installation GA_EP35_DS3L.zip 1-copy the folder Extra for HD ---> /Extra 2-Install Chameleon RC5 Reboot -v Fixs in DSDT DTGP HID/CID HPET IRQs GIGE RENAMED DEVICES RTC SBUS SHUTDOWN EHCI LPC ICH9 ICH9 USB SLEEP REMOVED DEVICES _WAK An other thing that I noticed was that shutdown and sleep don't work. For some reason (some last verbose error, I believe) I deleted the applecpupowermanagement.kext (or something alike) from system/library/extensions. return with the kext if you can reinstall would be good then just follow the procedure mentioned above

Diego There's a copule of extra steps for Vanilla PC hardware and Snow Leopard (these work for me, YMMV). 1) Use a boot disk (##### or similar) to boot into your newly installed system. 2) Once you are at the desktop, you need to install a bootloader (Chameleon or PC-EFI.) Chameleon has a decent installer, install RC2 first. 3) Once you have RC2 installed, you can upgrade to RC4 (just copy boot to /) or PC EFI here: http://netkas.org/?cat=5 4) IIRC, the CMOS issue was fixed by fakesmc.kext - search the forums for this, the modified kext should go in /Extra/Extensions. Also, save your BIOS settings in case it gets wiped again. 5) Make sure your DSDT.aml is correct - check here for your mobo: http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/ One question: What kind of video card do you have? And what kind of connection to your monitor? There is a major problem from 10.6.3 onwards related to DVI -> HDMI with HDCP handshakes - this will lock your machine before it gets to the desktop. More info on the CMOS thing here: http://netkas.org/?p=114 UPDATE: when booting up with a DSDT in verbose mode (at this point, any DSDT will do the same), it will finish the text part and when it should show the log in screen (or desktop) the screen goes black. Sounds like a graphics issue to me. You have 4 options: 1) Graphics Enabler via Chameleon/PC EFI 2) NVEnabler (or other injectors) 3) Hand-tweaked Gfx Strings 4) EFIStudio I myself have a 9400GT and 9500GT working in two slots. The card works with the current drivers for sure - getting ti to detect (and use full capabilities, resolution, QE, CI, etc) is another matter. Whatever you do, make sure you do it in /Extra - otherwise it will be tough to un-do whatever and try the next thing.
soundiego
Thanks. I will Install ASAP and report back. One question: I have Time Machine running on another HD. If I reinstall system disk and then restore from backup, will I get the problems again or boot stuff is independent from data backed up? I guess it is last case but just to be sure. D. soundiego
One question: What kind of video card do you have? And what kind of connection to your monitor? There is a major problem from 10.6.3 onwards related to DVI -> HDMI with HDCP handshakes - this will lock your machine before it gets to the desktop. This could be the case. I have the choice to use either de DVI port (a DVI to HDMI cable connected to a 42' LCD, only one screen) or the VGA port, to the same LCD. I have both cables ready but I am using the DVI right now (and keep the VGA unplugged on the computer side) Sounds like a graphics issue to me. You have 4 options: 1) Graphics Enabler via Chameleon/PC EFI 2) NVEnabler (or other injectors) 3) Hand-tweaked Gfx Strings 4) EFIStudio I think I tried them all. My best success was to get full resolution (1360x768x32 for this screen) but no QE/CI. It always boots in 1024x768 and the image is widened. I keep a log of everything I do but by reading it I can't figure out what did I do to get the resolution. Since then I couldn't get out the 1024x768 I myself have a 9400GT and 9500GT working in two slots. The card works with the current drivers for sure - getting ti to detect (and use full capabilities, resolution, QE, CI, etc) is another matter. But could you get to use the full capabilities finally? Or do I have to think of buying a new, simpler to install card? Thanks One question: What kind of video card do you have? And what kind of connection to your monitor? There is a major problem from 10.6.3 onwards related to DVI -> HDMI with HDCP handshakes - this will lock your machine before it gets to the desktop. While I was writing this I tried extracting, patching (RTC) and installing dsdt in extras. Reboot connecting through VGA and the screen is in full resolution! However when I try to enable Quartz GL using OSX86Tools and the following text shows up: AppleScript Error Can't make "The domain/default pair of (com.applewindowsserver, QuartzGLEnabled) does not exist" into type boolean. (-1700) Do you know what does it mean and how to solve it?
soundiego
I didn't do a clean install but it worked! I discovered (thans to HamNCheese's replay) that if I use VGA port instead of DVI port (converted to HDMI), I can see my screen after boot. I am not sure now if I need to patch anything else to have video working 100% but I will continue my research. In the meantime, I am running the DSDT you modified and your set of kexts. The only problem I see is that when computer goes to sleep, it doesn't wake up as if it was asleep. It turns on just as if I had turned it off. This happens when waking it up with power button or a mouse click (maybe something in the CMOS settings?) Anyway, thanks a LOT!!!
MaLd0n
WOW look at the system preferences/energy saver the ideal would be a clean installation or take everything you have already installed you have extensions.mkext? send me a kextstat, plz run on terminal
seanmcgpa
Could someone give me some advice for the EP35-DS3L (F6) and audio? I have a new install for 10.6.7 and everything works - except for sound. I have tried dozens of kexts, different dsdt.amls, yet i can't get working sound on this mainboard. It worked perfect on the 10.5 install i had erased. Do you guys have working sound on 10.6.7? Thanks, Sean
