To enable audio on your Gigabyte G41M-ES2L Rev 1.4 motherboard, use the following guide.

1. Downloaded VooDooHDA and Prefs Pane, I will post it below.

2. Downloaded KextHelper from http://cheetha.net/

3. Install VooDooHDA with KextHelper.

4. Double click the VoodooHDA prefs pane to install it. It should open up and give a few errors, that is normal just click "OK"

5. Put VooDooHDAHelper in the Utilities folder. Then add it to start up folder. /System/Library/StartupItems/

6. Remove any conflicting kexts like AppleHDA, HDAEnabler, AppleAzaliaAudio.kext, however it is alright to keep AppleFWAudio.

7. Reboot and hope that it works.

I have followed every possible guide out there, plus a few in this forum, and must say

this is definitely the only one that worked.

Thank you.

burns154 (and anybody else with the rev. 1.4): I cannot get front mike working on the g41m-es2l rev 1.4 with BIOS F9, neither with ANY AppleHDA, not with above VoodoHDA/PrefPane/Helper package. I have tried from all sorts of forums and threads. AppleHDA removed from S/L/E, only FakeSMC in E/E ..

In Windows 7 the front mike works fine, so it's not the jack.

If you have the front mike jack TESTED working with the rev. 1.4, would you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be so kind and attach or upload a zip package

with:

- all additional audio kexts you added in either S/L/E or E/E

- very important: boot, and dsdt.aml

- best the two plists from E/E

- WHICH BIOS DO YOU HAVE INSTALLED (pops up in the beginning in the top left of the black screen when you boot, something like F9 or F8)

I am really very bummed right now because I got this board since it used to be SOO compatible except for graphics, and now they changed the audio codec with the 1.4 rev, what a pity.

Hoping hoping hoping - Thank you,

Bugs

PS: burns154, the zip you attached contains a folder VoodooHDA with a voodoohda.kext, and a folder VoodooHDA PrefPane, with the PrefPane, helper, and another VoodoHDA, also v. 0.2.2 but slightly different size. Tried both Voodoohda kexts with PrefPane + helper, nothing, not even the volume icon in the menu bar .. ;) Error: error: IORegistryEntryGetPath returned 0x10000003

I have this mb too. finally use GigabyteALC88b6Ch.kext and HDAEnabler.kext make audio working.

find ALC888B = ALC887......... found on G41M-ES2L in this post

hxxp://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=140941

direct download link is here

hxxp://www.mediafire.com/?jomygylxukj

The exact files you will need from the Gigabyte_ALC888b.zip folder are GigabyteALC88b6Ch.kext & HDAEnabler.kext from the HDAEnabler_12 folder.

GigabyteALC88b6Ch.kext & HDAEnabler.kext put in /Extra/Extensions

also need AppleHDA Rollback (10.6.2 AppleHDA.kext)

ok followed the steps and got my sound working without the dreaded background hiss.. Problem is my input and MIC are seen but I'm not getting any sound coming into them.

It says they are there but nada.. nothing..

Any suggestions. ???

Thanks for the info though.. Half my battle is won so far.

Maybe true another version of VooDooHDA? I have since gotten rid of that system, but I did purchase a Logitech C310 and the Mic from that webcam had worked. Also, you could try the previous post. It says the the Mic works with that guide.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the response. I'm not sure which previous post you are referring to. Sorry, I'm a bit slow. Thanks again for your help. It really is appreciated.
