bruno_mac
Hello good people. I have now a fully working hackintosh and i´m very happy with it. I ha a Gigabyte EP45 Extreme mobo, a Core 2 Quad Q9550 cpu and a Gigabyte GeForce 8800GT card. I have no com.boot.plist. Only one Kext legacy for audio. I´m also using a DSDT because without it my CPU temp gets a little high. My only question is related with video hardware acceleration. I think its not working. When i play a 1080p mkv i get about 10 to 30% CPU usage wich is ok i think (in Win7 i get only 10% max but i know is different on mac osx) Well, i then decided to check the Boxee logs to see if VDA got successfully loaded but it is not. i always get this message: INFO: Trying Apple VDA Decoder... NOTICE: Open - VDADecoder Codec failed to open,status(-12470) So i guess i´m not getting hardware acceleration when playing mkvs. I tried Plex, xbmc, Boxee and VLC. Same result in all. What you guys are getting on the logs about VDA? Loaded? Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/235409-vda-on-geforce-8800gt/ Share on other sites
bruno_mac
No one? Could anybody with a 8800GT try this? Open Boxee and select a 1080p mkv movie and hit play. Then go to users/library/logs and open the boxee log. Type VDA on the search area to easily find the vda information and see if you get the same error i get or not. Only 10.6.4 users please. h.M.M
Tried with a 1080p AVC(x264) and failed. INFO: Trying Apple VDA Decoder... NOTICE: Open - VDADecoder Codec failed to open,status(-12470) EDIT/Update:e Right booted my other install that have DSDT "hack" for 8800gt instead of chamelons, But still no difference. However DSDT hack did give me on average 8 point(10 runs) less in XBench. NOTICE: Open - VDADecoder Codec failed to open,status(-12470) Thanks Veg a. Same error here... With a nvidia ION i got vda support. I never looked the boxee log with the ION but I am sure VDA was working because i could run 1080p movies smoothly and low atom usage....8800GT should work i think. Waiting for more reports. wallace91
Mine is not enabling as well. Everything else graphically seems to be enabled. All steam stuff runs great, and front works perfectly. Not sure why. I thought I had everything working perfectly. h.M.M
Hi again, Just thought I let you know that I might found the reason that it doesn't work. Because apple doesn't want it if you check the SL page it say hardware decoding requires 9400M, 320M or GT 330M. -.- Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/235409-vda-on-geforce-8800gt/#findComment-1575952 Share on other sites

The strange thing is why no one with the skills has managed to solve this thing. Not everyone has powerful cpus so the VDA is very important to some people. Maybe with the Lion we could get VDA in our boards.
