douirc
Ok, I thought I had this down pat until I ran Cinebench 11.5 and had horrible cpu/gpu scores, so I went back to the drawing board and found a new installation method that had great cpu/gpu results. What I've got: Gigabyte X58A-UD3R Rev 2.0 Bios FB Intel Core i7 930 3x2GB OCZ Gold eVGA GeForce GTX 480 Fermi What you'll need: Retail Snow Leopard DVD (http://www.macmall.com/p/6121855) #####-NVIDIA-4xx-1.iso.zip (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3853)(use this ISO to burn a CD to boot from) RealtekRTL81xx_0.0.67.zip (http://lnx2mac.blogspot.com/p/realtekrt ... river.html) ##### 2.3.0 (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6027) fermi_package_20100803.dmg (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index. ... pic=214219) MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.4.dmg (http://support.apple.com/downloads/DL10 ... 10.6.4.dmg) MyHack 1.1.4 (http://www.mediafire.com/file/gk941po72 ... 4.mpkg.zip)(http://blog.nawcom.com/?p=242) Installation: 1. didn't have to pull memory out or unplug usb devices. left everything as-is. 2. In BIOS, Pick Load Optimized Defaults, set CDROM to first boot device, change all disk settings to AHCI and change HPET mode to 64-bit. 3. Boot to ##### NVIDIA CD, replace with snow leopard dvd, F5 and boot 4. At the install screen, disk utility and erase disk with extended (journaled) option 5. Install MAC OS, wait for fail (had to move my mouse to refresh screen), reboot with ##### cd again 6. Load ##### and choose new installation, complete welcome screens and get to desktop 7. Run 10.6.4 update, don't reboot 8. Extract Fermi package and install fermi Kexts and RealtekRTL81xx with Kext Helper b7 9. Delete OpenCL and OpenGL frameworks from /S/L/F and copy/paste the fermi frameworks 10. Install MyHack 1.1.4 11. Reboot, hit down arrow during Chameleon loader and choose Boot Ignoring Caches 12. Delete AppleHDA.kext in S/L/E 13. Run ##### 2.3.0, make the following selections and reboot: -System Utilities -> Rebuild Caches -System Utilities -> Repair Permissions -Advanced Options -> Kexts -> Audio -> LegacyHDA -> ALC889 -Advanced Options -> Kexts -> Audio -> HDAEnabler -> ALC889 That's it. Pretty simple.

I will try your boot loader though since I was using empire...
thrawn5499
I made progress I switched to your guide and used the boot cd you gave a link for and it loaded SL. I got as far as installing myhack and rebooting but now I get a black screen and no signal to my monitor at the time of boot. i can use -v and i get to where the desktop should come up then the screen goes off. i am using the gtx460 could this be the issue? thanks i think i see what i did wrong... you said Delete OpenCL and OpenGL frameworks from /S/L/F and copy/paste the fermi frameworks i went to Library/frameworks didn't see the files so i added them. I now think I was supposed to go to system/library/frameworks.... is this correct?
thrawn5499
I thought maybe i could fix it in windows using macdrive... I went to the folder where I put the framework files removed them from there and placed them in the correct destination. how ever the same thing happens when i boot. screen goes black and monitor says no signal. it is an old monitor is it possible SL is now trying to boot in a higher res then the monitor can handle? Not sure if copying the files over using MacDrive will work since Mac asks you to authenticate the files when copying. Not sure if you missing that authentication could screw something up. I would suggest a fresh install. It won't take long since you know what you're doing now, plus to save time you can click the Customize button during SL install and uncheck all the options (cuts the install time down by about half). as for the monitor going black, Mac recognized my monitor automatically and set the resolution correctly. it's possible, although i'd be surprised, that if Mac can't figure out what the monitor is it doesn't send an output signal, but that seems far fethced. I would assume it would just default to VGA. If you have a DVI monitor, i'd suggest trying that. either way, i'd do a fresh install and try again. thrawn5499
ok I will try that thanks I am guessing that you are right about the authentication. I have a vga monitor connected to a dvi port but it worked until I tried to reboot after my hack install.
thrawn5499
Well I still have the same proble and this time I did everything as the guide said. I think it has something to do with the kext for the video card because the monitor is working fine until the restart after I install the kext and myhack then there is no signal going to the monitor. i tried to force a resolution to to make sure it was not to high but that did nothing well after reading around some it looks like thr 460 is not supported... I am not the only one that gets the black screen..... what happens if I just don't install drivers for it? it was working of before I used the kext... I'm still stuck on your monitor. When you click About This Mac and look at More Details -> Graphics/Display when the screen is working, you'll see it's not detecting your video card nor your monitor. After the installation of the kext and framework, the system identifies all of this, which could be what's throwing it off. have any friends with a DVI 720p or 1080p monitor you can borrow? have a hdtv? I'm not 100% sure it's not working, just may not be working with your monitor. Also, I assume you can reboot in safe mode (-x) right? Is there an option (switch) to boot in VGA mode? just found this link: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1559029 tuff bob I have a GTX460 I bought after skimming this thread..... it of course doesn't work, but I'm wondering is there a way to get the card to work in VGA/VESA mode without giving the -x flag while we wait for drivers? rabbit74 Oct 4 2010, 10:03 PM Post #833 If you remove /System/Library/Extensions/NVDAResman.kext your system will boot to low graphics mode without -x rabbit. you won't be using the CL/GL drivers, which means all video will be very slow. it's like when you install windows without the video drivers. you'll see something, but all video stuff is slow. where are you getting the fermi drivers from? the link I posted above? it says in cmf's post that he added 460 support on 2010/07/15. thrawn5499
Hi is there anyway to recover from the black screen without starting again? also what should I avoid doing if i do redo the install? can I still do basically everything but the graphics part of your guide and still be able to boot? thanks

I assume ##### is using some sort of nvidia driver set in standard or safe mode so you can boot the machine, i just don't know how to extract the drivers from the cd and load them into your current install. i'm sure you can start a new thread or just ask they guys who wrote the ##### cd to help you. you can find their post here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3853 also, there are some others with gtx 460's in the fermi post that have gotten it to work in XGA mode. might want to search that thread for "460" and see what you find. thrawn5499
Hi thank. I read through all of that and I think I can live with my graphics card not preforming very good for the time being... it has to be better then my last hackintosh that used a intel 915 for the graphics..... I am however having trouble with the my hack install. after 5 time going through this guide and narrowing out things like not installing the kext or not installing the 10.6.4 update they all have left me with the screen message to hold down my power button and restart the computer.I guess the problem is I am not picking the correct options in the my hack installer. can some one please tell me what I need and what I don't? thanks

Installation: 12. Delete AppleHDA.kext in S/L/E I've successfully installed the GTX 470 on the GA-H55N-USB3 using a process similar to yours. Two questions: 1. Step 12, why do you delete AppleHDA? 2. Regarding Cinebench OpenGL Performance. I get 21 fps with the standard clock. Is it true to get 30+ fps, you have to overclock to 4GHz with Snow Leopard? Thanks.
