iATKOS S3 nForce 780i with a Mac Pro ATI Radeon HD 4870

A long time ago I've used verdant's method to installing SL on my PC. It never fully worked, but now that I have a new video card and newer distros are out, I'm trying again.

I've been using the iATKOS S3 v2 disc to install SL. Installation works fine following verdant's guide (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?automodule=blog&blogid=284&showentry=816) however I've been using 64-bit kexts and not bothering to include the RTC kext, since it gives a kernel panic when I try to boot after install.

My main problems occur when trying to boot off the HD after install. I've been using the EVOenabler for my video card, but upon booting with -v, after evoenabler says device in SLOT-1, I get the forever famous "Still waiting for root device...". This happens even if I know for sure I've selected the nForce SATA/IDE kext in the "Customize" menu. Does anyone know what the problem is?

Also, I'm using a Mac Pro ATI Radeon HD 4870 card (a friend upgraded his Mac Pro graphics card and gave me the old one). Do I need enablers or kexts for it at all?

Forgive my newbishness. And even if installs are successful, I haven't been able to boot to the HD at all yet, not even in safe mode (safe mode can't seem to load the nForceATA kexts and hangs).

Configuration:

Intel Core 2 Duo

XFX nForce 780i motherboard

Apple ATI Radeon HD 4870

Creative SB X-Fi (which I don't expect to ever get working with SL)

Ok everything is installed. Things are working fine (other than the fact that it says my video card is a 4890...).

EXCEPT.

I get the same problem I did a year ago when trying to run this... Spinning beach ball of death and the whole system locks up. I've tried a few different nForceATA kexts, in case it had something to do with writing to the HD. That hasn't fixed anything. I've also tried booting with only 2GB of RAM. Nadda.

Any ideas? Am I doomed to never get to have a hackintosh as long as I use an nForce mobo?

What happens when you boot with "arch=i386 -v -x cpus=1 maxmem=2048 debug=0x144".........post screenshots of the kernel panic........
