darkbayleef
First of all hello everyone; I'm a 20 year old computer enthusiast from Brisbane, Australia. Currently own a MacBook Pro 15" 2.53GHz, a crappy Acer Aspire desktop I unfortunately inherited (worst PC ever), and a Lenovo laptop I also acquired. I just got my 4th computer, a PowerMac G5 I got damn cheap from a friend. It's a first model G5, running a 1.8GHz PPC processor, with 2GB of RAM, and 10.5. I'm not so much interested in that, considering it's price I think I could turn it into a pretty good machine. I know it's nigh on impossible to replace the processor. But what I'm unsure of is if I replace the logic board to a newer 2.5GHz PPC board will it actually WORK? Or will the computer boot into safe mode, then explode killing everyone in the immediate vicinity? If not, is it possible to replace the entire motherboard with a standard Asus / Gigabit / MSI etc motherboard that is hackintosh compatible. Price is not a real issue as I got the PowerMac at a very, VERY good price, and I already have oodles of DDR2 lying around. If neither of these are really an option, any other upgrade suggestions for me? I've considered upgrading the graphics card to a compatible nVidia (yeah I know that certain ones don't work, I've already got the compatible one picked out). Thanks everyone. darkbayleef
See here.......... Thanks mate. This solves at least one of my problems. Does anyone else know if I upgrade to a newer G5 logic board with 2.5GHz PPC processor if it will actually work though? Going Intel will be nice because it means more power and being able to install Snow Leopard rather than Leopard, but having a PPC Leopard machine would also be useful (but obviously not as powerful).
