nekton
Does OS X actually make use of Hyperthreading on Pentium Ds? If not, would the Pentium D 945 (3.4 GHz but without HT support) be a good buy at $245? errandwolfe
Yes OS X does utilize hyperthreading on the Pentium 4 D serires. If you can afford the price difference and are planning to use Parallels though I would highly suggest a Pentium 4 Extreme as it supports Intels VT technolgy. gwprod12
According to intel's VT matrix, the 900 series supports VT as well. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/23495-pentium-d-945/#findComment-156559 Share on other sites
MasterBetty
I'm pretty sure the 945 doesnt support VT , I know the 915 was recently released and it's basically an 920 without the VT. Considering the new core 2 chips will soon be easier to obtain , I don't see any reason in wasting $250 on something that's already obsolete. The entry level E6300 will be somewhere around $200 and it's just slightly slower than the 965 Extremely Expensive edition P4 at $1000.
