Valaya
Hello everyone, I would need some help from experienced users about installing macOSX on my PC. There are couple of thing I need help with : 1.) What are the methods to install OSX on a PC ( I heard about Vanilla and distribution, but have no clue about any of them) --- The OS I want to install is Snow Leopard 2.) I've checked my hardware compatibility, but had no luck in matching any of my current hardware with the supported list, but I've also read on allot of web-pages that strict component list is not necessary, so I would need someone experienced to confirm this 3.) This is my current hardware LINK BTW, I have read all the instructions on OSx86, but no guide I've read doesn't cover the ground basics of what I want to know in question 1.) I hope someone will be able to help me. Thank You in advance Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/234125-help-with-the-osx/ Share on other sites
iGnu_10
Hello everyone, I would need some help from experienced users about installing macOSX on my PC. There are couple of thing I need help with : 1.) What are the methods to install OSX on a PC You don't need OSx86 if all you want is the Aero GUI This is Gnome running the Mac4Lin theme pack; The theme may not work too well on firefox or thunderbird, but with everything else, it works just fine and firefox thunderbird have there own *.Jar themes you can use. Also if you use this instead of a regressed copy of OSx86 you'll be able to get your hands on your security updates which are the most important feature on any OS. My suggestion, download the latest copy of Ubuntu 10:10 Maverick Meerkat then apply the theme by downloading it from here. http://sourceforge.net/projects/mac4lin/ You'll have to learn how to use the bash shell to invoke the installer script, read the README included with the theme and to customize the startup screen use Ubuntu Tweak. The Bar at the Bottom is called Docky and being open source it's completely free to use, free to distribute and free to modify. Snow leopard, pfft! Valaya
Thanks for pointing that out, I've actually removed ubuntu 10.04 like yesterday, too much hassle with software installation (atleast for me), but I do want the actual installation of OSX on PC, not just the GUI you suggested, but thanks for helping out . Hope someone else can help out Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/234125-help-with-the-osx/#findComment-1562313 Share on other sites

Hope someone else can help out Your removing GNU/Linux in preference for a pirate copy of a propriety system owned by apple! Software installation is easy with the Synaptic Package Manager or Ubuntu Tweak which makes package installation easy. But if you think installing OS X is easier and then getting it to work with all your hardware, go for it!! I bet you may still find yourself using the command line in the end! Linux has NetBeans so you cant say it's because you would miss the Java! Valaya
Sigh, I was just asking if anyone could help me out, no need to be sarcastic. Nvm though. iGnu_10
I apologize I didn't intend to sound sarcastic, it's the fact your dismissing a perfectly working copy of a system with the new ext4 filing system and plymouth startup manager thereby reducing your system boot time to approx 11 seconds in favor of a system that uses a propriety filing system that embraces DRM and which is experimental at best. I've tried OSx86 & I found it to be below par at best, it's hit and miss with the drivers working with your machine, this means you run the risk of total systems failure if you have hardware that is not supported in the build. You also can not install security updates from apple as it's not an Apple endorsed machine your running it on. iGnu_10
Why are you here. This forum is for people who want to run OS X. Just because you failed. Unless you have something constructive to add to the forum, shush! I never said I had failed, it just didn't do what I wanted it too, which is why I swapped over to a more powerful and flexible system. If it breaks, it'll be because, I broke it! Pirate Bay 4 Example! To run it on Ubuntu use QEMU it's the similar to VMWare, it's also a bootable copy, check the supported hardware in the comments, if yours is not listed you have to search for the one that is most compatible, failing that, you'll always have my previous suggestion to fall back on Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/234125-help-with-the-osx/#findComment-1562383 Share on other sites
Valaya
Are you sure that there won't be any major hardware failures or problems whilst using this package ? I've put my system spec in the link on the first post, would be nice if You are experienced to check it and advise me Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/234125-help-with-the-osx/#findComment-1562386 Share on other sites

I've put my system spec in the link on the first post, would be nice if You are experienced to check it and advise me It looks like you'll defiantly be needing ACPI support, nVIDIA MCP67/68 Motherboard, RTL8185 54M Wireless LAN Network Adapter, nVIDIA MCP67/68 - Ethernet Controller, GeForce GT 220 etc etc on the 10.04 desktop before you removed it, you could have invoked the terminal and just typed lspci and that would have given you most of your hardware. Check the list and note them down, then compare it against the list of compatible versions of osx86 available. http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...allation_Guides It's hit and miss... (sadly) what people installing it advocate doing is getting one of the versions to work then patching the hardware like sound, graphics, later on if their not properly working on first boot. Valaya
Thanks for the reply, appreciate it I'll download that patched version and try it out, I'll post the results after ( and IF ) I manage to get it working. Thanks again. Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/234125-help-with-the-osx/#findComment-1562399 Share on other sites
Valaya
Ok, I've downloaded this distribution LINK but I get restart loop while I'm trying to boot in the installer, I've also tried to use various boot parameters like -v -F -x fsb, busratio=16 (20) -arch=i386 but still no changes, it won't let me into setup. Any ideas ? Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/234125-help-with-the-osx/#findComment-1571842 Share on other sites

geiman
Well, you've got two things going against you: your nvidia chipset and your AMD processor. Not that they cannot be made to work with OS X, its just a little more difficult. Whether or not your actualy MOBO will support it I cannot say for sure as I don't have much experience with AMD (I'm more of an Intel guy). There is a guy around here named Verdant (spelling?) who is the nvidia chipset guru. He has quite a few guides, so I'd say if anyone can help you here it would be him. Your mobo might not be anything like what he is familiar with, but typically he's been all over the nvidia chipset stuff. Good luck Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/234125-help-with-the-osx/#findComment-1571933 Share on other sites
Valaya
Thanks for the info Geiman, do you by any chance now how to contact Verdant, or maybe post a link to his guides, I would really appreciate it. I was suspecting that my processor might be the biggest problem, maybe You can suggest some latest distributions that could be helpful ? Thank You Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/234125-help-with-the-osx/#findComment-1571936 Share on other sites
