hold shift while it's booting before you see the grey apple screen. Release shift when you see that screen. You are now loading into safe boot. If it boots fine with the graphics not all scrambled, then you know your issue.

 

I would then figure out which video card you have, and backup and delete all the .plist files in system/library/extensions/ folder with the designation for your card. I.e. if you have an ATI chipset, delete all with ATI in the name. However, do not delete your backup, as you may be able to use them in the future to unlock CI and QE.

Listen:

I've moved (or delete) all Intel .kext from /System/Library/Extension to a backup folders, removed Extensions.kextcache and Extension.mkext and now it boots OK (normal mode)

Then reinstaled GMA950 support from JAS 10.4.7 DVD and now have Core Image and Quartz Extreme Supported Great!
