Leohazard or other distro vs Retail DVD install

I have seen many sites and videos discussing different ways to install OS X. I used the Leohazard method and it worked fine. Is there some advantage to buying the Retail OS X DVD from Apple and installing using that? It just seems like more steps to me. I just want the most solid install of OS X I can get.
