venticoffee
My hardware: MB: ASUS P6T CPU: i7 930 Video: Sapphire Vapor-X Radeon 5770 1GB Memory: Kingston HyperX 6 X 2GB Optical: Sony Optiarc SATA Drive Retail Snow Leopard: v10.6.1 I've read and watched the following links and I am pretty comfortable with what I need to do, but as I am a new to hackintosh I have some questions that are not easily found anywhere. http://osx86.sojugarden.com/ http://www.fleebailey33.org/ http://phil.replete.nu/hackintosh-osx-86-p...0-and-asus-p6t/ http://www.flynflip.com/Hackintoshing/hackintoshHome.asp All above links deal with my MB ASUS P6T. If you have something else, then your mileage will vary. Here are my intended steps. I don't have access to a working mac and I have to wait till tomorrow to go over to my friend's house and make a boot flash drive. 0. Read Preface section on http://osx86.sojugarden.com/installer/ 1. Make a booting flash drive with Snow Leopard. This is shown in one of links above in a video. Or follow instructions in step 1: Prepare USB Drive on http://osx86.sojugarden.com/installer/ 2. http://osx86.sojugarden.com/installer/ says that this is where I should include "any additional alterations that you may require to the USB drive". If you watch video by http://www.flynflip.com/Hackintoshing/ASUS%20P6T.asp (long and slow but useful for noob like me), he shows you how to install http://www.fleebailey33.org/ file called freebailey v2.0.6.zip. The latest file is version v2.0.9.5.zip I assumed that fleebailey has made working drivers for ASUS P6T. I have questions on how someone does this but that's probably out of my league. I can go into the zip file and individually google them to find out more but for now I am going to accept this file as is. Thank you fleebailey for making it available. 3. Installing seem to be straight forward with following Bios Setup by http://www.flynflip.com/Hackintoshing/P6T_BIOS_setup.asp Then finish the rest of video by http://www.flynflip.com/Hackintoshing/ASUS%20P6T.asp 4. And for any potential problem you might run into, you should read Steps 6 and 10 from http://phil.replete.nu/hackintosh-osx-86-p...0-and-asus-p6t/ I'll give it a try tomorrow but I think I understand everything upto here. Here are my questions. I have a Radeon 5770 video card and I've downloaded "aty_init" and driver from links provided in http://netkas.org/?p=465 Q1. Assuming that I can boot from my newly installed Snow Leopard machine in safe mode, how do you go about installing these drivers? Is there a utility and a link to usage infor someone can point me to? So far I think copying files in the v2.0.9.5.zip (boot file, extra folder and AppleHDA.kext) to the flash drive and then running pfix to resolve permission issues is what I am doing to install drivers. I think it's more like replacing system files and fixing permissions. I understand these steps but what do I need to do to add "aty_init" and 5770 driver to flash drive? Q2. If I can't boot into SL machine in safe mode, then I am thinking I should go back to my friend house and install 5770 drivers on to flash before I start the installation process. Is that right? Q3. Since I have to go to my friend's house to use his mac, I need to have a most compatible version on my flash drive. Which one of the following should I have on the OSX install flash drive? (1) Snow Leopard 10.6.1 and MyHack (http://osx86.sojugarden.com) Installed (2) (1) and replace boot file, extra folder and AppleHDA.kext from the v2.0.9.5.zip (from http://www.fleebailey33.org/). I think this is a minimum requirements to install initially. (3) (2) and also install 5770 drivers (when someone show me how to do it). I am worried that when next major update comes out everything will be broken again. On second thought, once I have a mac running, then I don't need my friend's mac to do any file utility stuff. I just have to make sure my working mac doesn't update automatically. I should create another partition and test out. I'll post what happened and more questions tomorrow. Thanks.
