First Group
Hi Basicly i have a very old P3 upstairs and im wondering if i can convert it into mac panther or tiger? Its running a 800Mhz / 256Mb / 60Gb / 5200 Nvidia 256Mb Pci? I have read the info on the version 10.4.6 but dont understand it that clear and also would i need to install freebsd? If it cant be done on that machine i know it will work on this machine im on at current but worried it will mess with the windows xp part which is vital it stays running (I do have an 60Gb IDE drive spare) Any help for this would be spot on Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/23176-newbie/ Share on other sites
Rammjet
Basicly i have a very old P3 upstairs and im wondering if i can convert it into mac panther or tiger? Its running a 800Mhz / 256Mb / 60Gb / 5200 Nvidia 256Mb Pci? Nope, too old, needs at least SSE2 capability I have read the info on the version 10.4.6 but dont understand it that clear and also would i need to install freebsd? Nope, review one of the many installation guides on the site. If it cant be done on that machine i know it will work on this machine im on at current but worried it will mess with the windows xp part which is vital it stays running (I do have an 60Gb IDE drive spare) 6 GB is just enough for testing but leaves little room to install many apps. Rammjet
Definitely follow a guide - use this one, just don't do the steps that don't apply, but do all the others: http://www.profit42.com/index.php/2006/05/...ndows-computer/ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/23176-newbie/#findComment-153597 Share on other sites
First Group
thanks for the support so far.. In the first stage it says use partition magic.. what format (primary? ntfs or fat32?) Rammjet
Partition Magic is only used to resize the Windows partition SMALLER. I don't think you are planning to do this. If you read a few more steps, DISKPART in Windows is used to create a primary partition for MacOSX. When you install, OSX, you will be formating to the OSX format of HFS+. Just read through the guide one time to get the whole picture. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/23176-newbie/#findComment-153624 Share on other sites
First Group
Well ive formatted my IDE drive and havnt even formatted it into a type such as FAT32 or NTFS. The disk (JAS) loads without a problem into the mac screen and stayed there for ten minutes until i rebooted did F8 then -V and it says usb on lane 48 & 16 timing out.. and loops trying to retry. Is this a simple device like my web cam i need to unplug? or is it a serious error? ive tryed searching this forum with "usb timing out" and no results back.. Any ideas? USB deviced installed: Webcam Printer Camra Cable (nothing attached) Ipod Cable (nothing attached) and thats it. got the usal Sound card attachments and an ethernet router (linksys) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/23176-newbie/#findComment-154356 Share on other sites
