australianmacgamer Posted August 25, 2010 Share Posted August 25, 2010 Basically The Specs I am Looking At Are As Follows Cpu 980x 1389 CPU Cooler Noctua NH-U12P SE2 109 0r combined $1419 or AMD Maybe 1090T 345 Could Change 980X as Well Though Was hoping for 6 core prefer not to OC if Not Required again if i need to i would do so i believe Graphics Ideally 2 Gtx 480 Depending on model / Manufacter Priced Like So 659/599/659 difference on 1 card had SC in Model or for About the Sam Price 5876 ATI (599) or 5970 at (779) Mobo Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 (rev. 1.0) 289 Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R (rev. 2.0) 269 GA-X58A-UD5 (rev. 2.0) (supporting Socket 1366/sata 3/CF & SLi) 375 Intel i7 Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 (rev. 1.0) 439 Intel i7 Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD9 (rev. 1.0) 649 Intel i7 EVGA X58 SLI Classified 141-BL-E760-A1 (supporting Socket 1366/SLi) 569 Intel i7 EVGA X58 Classified 4 Way SLI 170-BL-E762-A1 (supporting Socket 1366/4way SLi) 669 Else other Board Something like The SR-2 with 6 Core something like X5850/60 probably thiugh that would cost $ 900 for the SR-2 and 1200+ for the single Processor and The Rest of The specs The Same for My Needs how would it compare price wise seems similar PSU Coolermaster Silent Pro Rs-A00-80Ga-D3 1000W if right is 299 Certifications SLI / CrossFire / 80 Plus Gold Though if better products and Prices Elsewhere Please Include Ram Not 100% on Ram But Here re the list of ram choices i think work fine Assuming Triple Channel Though Would Hopefully > 6gb if cheap enough though if i get better performance from more ram in dual channel that is an option Desktop DDR3 Ram 6GB Tri-Kit (3x2048MB) PC10666 1333MHz Patriot PSD36G1333KH 9-9-9-24 (i7 ready) 195 or A few other choices IT Estate Pricing As they Are Local If so would 2000 mhz ram more or less make a difference on these boards Storage As i Have a Raid 5-0 Nas With 5TB Free I was thinking of maybe a tri 2 TB Raid 5-0 Setup depending on price or a at least 1 2tb drive or a few 1tbs in a raid I think That storage space with decent spped 7200rpm drives seem okay is A Expecting between 149 - 200 Per Drive ODD At Least 1 BluRay Drive Fastest Avaliable So pioneer 12x 169 for Oem or 199 Retail thinking fast DVD Drive Maybe As Well so 240 to Spend There MAX something Like The Pioneer 218 or so again i have external drive 1 drive may do Case Basically A Tool Less Design with Hot Swap Drive Bays for Cooling Purposes A Large Case would Be Wise again if good custom cases etc are avaliable then maybe those as well price being the factor Examples I Like Gaming Case Thermaltake V9 BlacX Edition - VM400M1W2Z (USB 3.0 Connector) no PSU 139 Full Tower CoolerMaster HAF RC-942 (no PSU/ready for Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD9) Black 239 Basically A Large Tower That Looks Decent and Resonably Prices Though I reckon Max 400 unless awesome Additionals Firewire 800 I know that 1394a is onboard tough a 1394b card is preferred Again I want to run OSX on this easily so if you know about the parts for this and the compatibility then i would be greatful i know the processor is fine the ram would need to be less than 4gb at the start from memory Again Aiming to be Cheaper Than Mac Pro Extra Monitor More tHan likely 3D monitor Though Could Settle For 24-27 inch Dell or Run off TV 55inch 1080p Non 3D though VGA/HDMI then buy screen Looking At 2223 ( i think) Though Any of THe #D Screens Would Do Prefer as Close to 24 inch and 120hz #D if Possible For the best Experience though any is fine Hopefully < 1000 for Screen Dell 27 inch 999 unless factory outlet,Alienware,Samsung<Acer Etc and some benchmarks would be good ideally 3d bluray and gaming also monitor to have inputs for Hdmi ETC is a plus Machine Purpose The Machine Will have Many Roles Such As Gaming Video Editing Encoding Movie Playback Etc Virtualisation Again Basically Any Suggestions or Options i may have missed and How does the installer work as far as i know the newer method is the bootdisks and retail DVD does this work for all these boards etc Equally i would Like to have it Support 10.4,10.5 etc as well as vista/win7 and maybe xp and linux if it is possible again i could be wrong about my thoughts ideally the most important systems are 10.6 and win 7 I am aiming for performance as good if not better than the current mac pro 6 core Thanks for your help it is much appreciated Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
