Hey guy just in need of abit of help trying to get leopard to install. I recently got into the whole hackintosh mood and decided to try and install it, after burning iAtkos v7, iDeneb, iPC, Kalyway I find I cannot get to the Install of either of these Distros! iAtkos v7, iDeneb and Kalyway give me "Still waiting for root Device..." and iPC just freezes with drive spinning :S

I found that Leo4allv3/v4.1 seemed to boot and install but would like to upgrade to 10.5.8 Sucessfully and try a newer distro :S I don't know what it is about Leo4Allv3/v4.1 but that's the only Distro I can get to boot and install, is it some sort of nForce issue or something? or a certain kext in the leo4all dvd?

My System Specs:

Manufacture: DELL

Model: DELL Inspiron 531

Motherboard: (Not a Clue, Possibly OEM)

HDD: 250GB SATA HDD (Not sure of Manufacture)

RAM: 2GB DDR2 RAM

Graphics Card: Nvidia 8600GT 256MB Dual DVI

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ 2.80GHz

Chipset: nForce (not sure of version)

Physical Drive: HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H73N (Possibly OEM, not sure of Manufacture)

I would also like to note I only have SATA Ports and NO IDE Ports on the Motherboard.

A second Note is that i cannot burn anything but read disks perfect in Leopard :S

Also would like to suggest is do you think I could run Tiger no problem?

Any Help is Appreciated!

Cheers,

Hey kind of old thread. Oh well I'm in the same boat as you! Same computer. I can actually get iDeneb to boot and Leo4Allv3. When I go to install, it installs correctly, however on reboot I get the same lousy error "still waiting for root device"

It's weird because the disk boots, and you think the install would boot with the same chipset kext that the DVD does..

Apparently not :/ I'm at a loss what to do. Any other advice would be appreciated

Okay I managed to get it to work on this system.

I used Leo4allv4.1 to install

The only Chipset kext that works is the Nvidia TEST one to prevent "Still waiting for root device"

EFI kernel 9.4.0

smbios 667

chameleon bootloader

applications etc...

Then it booted succesfully!

To upgrade to 10.5.8 first I downloaded osx86 tools and used that to upgrade the kernel to AnV 9.8.0

Then I used ASU by Zephyroth to download the 10.5.8 combo update, patch it, and install it.

Worked like a charm, except now there are extreme video problems with my GeForce 210. I never tested the onboard graphics, and i dont know about the 8600GT card either.
