DWA-556 not showing up at all! - Please help.

I bought a DWA-556 with the impression that it was going to work out of the box. Heeeeelll no. I'm running 10.6.4 here and the device doesn't even show up with lspci. Nothing shows up in System Profiler. I tried installing AtherosFix.kext but that didn't help either. I think the dev id is 168c,24 which is in both AirPortAtheros.kext as well as AtherosFix.kext.

The light on the the card next to the three antennas is blinking green at a consistent speed. It's a PCIe x1 card. I tried installing it in PCIe x4, x8 and x16 but nothing worked. The card is too long for the x1 slot.

What's going on here!?? Please help. Thanks in advance!

BTW, 32-bit kernel.

holy {censored}.... it's working now. The only thing I did differently from yesterday was restarting the box instead of turning it off and on again. Weird. Could somebody explain? Thanks for all your moral support by the way.

EDIT: Just turned off and again and the Airport interface was gone. However, after a RESTART it came back. What's going on here? How do I get it to show without having to restart? TIA.

Well, I can offer my moral support but not much more... I was JUST ABOUT to buy the same card because I'm fed up with my Edimax EW-7711UAn USB adapter (weak signal, weaker software), but now I'm waiting to see if you figure it out. Good luck!

Perhaps I can help after all! Here is a 64-bit kext, and here are some instructions I found. Hope it helps...

Thanks! I haven't tried it yet, but why would a 64-bit kext solve my issue? I'm running a 32-bit kernel.

On a related note, I don't regret buying this card. It's been very stable. It doesn't drop connections, doesn't cause kernel panics, and provides good speed even with ~30% signal strength because of my location. The only annoying thing is I have to reboot after a cold boot to get OS x to recognize the card.

What kind of transfer speeds are you getting with this card? Thanks.

You have an easy way to measure. I don't want to go all the way setting up a client-server thing to test. OS X reports 130 Mbps but that's BS.
