Is there anyway to get an internal hardware (NOT win/soft) modem working with OS X? OS X seems to think it should be dialing via the serial port when I choose USR Universal during setup.

No broadband available in my area so I'm stuck with dialup before anyone suggets getting broadband.

I wouldn't count on it getting an internal modem to work. I had the same problem as you, no broadband. So I tried an older USR 56k external serial modem. It crashed constantly. Then I tried a mac compatible USB modem (Best Data) and it worked well enough to get online, but was problematic. Personally, I would grab one of Apple's 56k USB modems ($35-40). You know it will work out of the box.

Good luck.
