Correct disk space on the partition table

Hi,

 

I had a good working 10.4.6 on 8GB partition. I backed up the entire partition with 'dd' command and restored the backup file to a new 35GB partition. Although disk utility says the capacity is 35GB, available space + used space is still 8GB. How can I correct this to use the other 27GB(35GB - 8GB) space? I tried disk utility's 'repair disk' and 'fsck -yl', but no hope.
