I've constantly been having this problem, so i decided to do an entirely fresh installation of 10.6.4, and while everything else is perfect, QE/CI enabled, correct reporting of video card and cpu, I still seem to have this problem.

I do a lot of photoshop, final cut pro, motion, and now most recently when playing certain avi files in VLC.

The computer doesnt crash, as in the audio will still keep playing, but all keyboard and mouse inputs are frozen (can't pause the video with the space bar after screen garbles)

It's an I7 920, ati 4850, 3gb ram, etc.

Installed with latest myhack installer, graphics enable yes, current kexts are

AppleACPIPS2Nub

ApplePS2Controller

EliottForceLegacyRTC

EvOreboot

FakeSMC

Intel82566MM

IONetworkingFamily

LegacyATI4800Controller

NullCPUPowerManagement

SleepEnabler

VoodooHDA

I even added my own device ID, and used DSDT Patcher GUI. It happens in 32 and 64 bit.

I'm out of options here... I even have a DVI2VGA Dongle in the 2nd port, just in case.

My theory is the card is overheating?? Maybe i should flash it and put the fan at 100% all the time? Is it most likely a hardware fault?

The garbled screen now is usually just a bunch of tiny color dots flashing, like noise on a TV. If you want, I can post a picture.

Thanks guys... Lemme know what your thoughts are.

EDIT: OpenCL tool shows it as a 4870... Heres the output
