ey folks

going to buy my components for a hackingtosh..

use: large image editing (>800 mb 16bit tiffs)

my mobo shortlist is:

asus p6x58D premium

asus p6T deluxe

or the tonymac-way with a ga-x58-ud3r

gpu: ati 5770

ram probably 12 gig (6*2)

now the Qs:

1) which mobo is the easiest to 'hack' ?

2) there are a lot of 64bit problems, can i boot in 32bit and still use the 12 gig ram?

thnx in advance!

Yes, all Intel based OS X versions that are 32 bit can still use all 12 GB of RAM. It uses the Physical Address Extension technique which basically means only ~4GB is directly used, the other 8GB is used for mapping. If you were referring to 32 bit Windows, then yes, Windows supports PAE as well but not directly anymore (you need to setup the BIOS correctly and might need an OS workaround).
