I have a Kakewalk based hackintosh built on a Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 motherboard. Overall I have zero problems with this machine. I do have a question about Wake on Lan (WOL).

I can send a WOL packet and successfully wake my machine if it hasn't been a sleep too long. If the machine has been a sleep for a while the WOL packet doesn't wake the machine (although pressing a keyboard key does still wake it). I haven't yet figured out at what length of time the WOL packet stops working after it has been asleep.

I did a bit of searching on this forum and have come to the conclusion that there might be two types of sleep. A "regular" sleep and a "deep" sleep. The deep sleep might be called "hibernation". Is this true? Does a hackintosh go into "sleep" and then at some point go into "hibernation?"

I wonder if the WOL packet wakes my machine from sleep but not hibernation. Can anyone help shed some light on this?

Thanks.
