Hello. I've been trying to install OS X, and have tried several versions (hazard, iATKOS 1 & 7, iDeneb 1.5.1), but i haven't had much luck. I keep getting kernel panics that seem to be around the same in appearance (the one below is the latest one i experienced).

This is the quick version of what i've done & how it ended:

•Tried the hazard OSX Snow leopard. Formatted disc, installed, Kernel panic at reboot just after install. Panic details were very similar to what is detailed below.

•Tried iATKOS v1.0i, patched for AMD. Same result as with hazard.

•Tried iATKOS v1.7, patched for AMD. Same result as with hazard.

•Tried iDeneb v1.5.1. It seemed to install ok, though it asked me to push the Reset button instead of rebooting automatically, which worried me, but it wouldn't boot on it's own (gave a "Chain boot broken" message, or something very similar). I read that is should leave the install disk in the drive to see if it WOULD boot, tried that and it attempted to boot but it paniced with a message about the Voodoo HDA audio drive, so i zero-ed the partition, reinstalled without the driver & had to leave the install disc in the drive, but it froze on boot at the light-gray Apple logo page with the spinning symbol that looks like a clock without numbers. It didn't give a panic message at first, but finally gave the one you see below, so now i'm really confused.

Here's what i'm working with:

System:

MotherBoard: ASUS m3a79-t Deluxe (AMIBIOS v1501)

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 x2 5400+

RAM: PQI PC2-6400 (DDR2 800) 400 MHz, 4096 MB (4X1024)

BootHDD: Seagate 320 GB Sata2 HDD

LogicalHDD: Western Digital 1.5 TB CaviarGreen HDD

VGA: XFX Radeon HD4850 1GB PCIe 2.0

CD/DVD: TSSTcorp CD/DVDW Sata2 OpticalDrive

Primary OS: Vista x64 Home Premium SP2, using Vista's MBR

Current Build Intent: Tri-boot(Vista, XP, OS X)

I have EasyBCD 2.0, but i don't know much about it, and the online documentation on their site doesn't seem to match this version. I am however open to using a different bootloader. But i would need help learning how to set that up please.

I really want to avoid wiping the whole drive, cause i REALLY don't want to lose the vista installation & i have no clue how to preserve it so that i could wipe the drive completely (but again, i'm open to learning).

I apologize in advance if a solution to this or a similar issue has already been posted, but i wasn't able to find one (if you know where one is, PLEASE let me know!), but it's also possible i simply didn't understand what i was reading. I'm not super-knowledgable when it comes to the "how's and why's" of making this stuff work, but i certainly want to learn so any and all help is GREATLY appreciated! Thank you in advance for your time and attention!

  • 3 weeks later...

well, i managed to get Kalyway 10.5.2 to boot, but only in safe mode. I used some of the drivers from the iDeneb 1.5.1 /10.5.7 installation disc for the video card & am getting a nice resolution automatically, but the sound is really choppy unless the mouse cursor is being moved: leave mouse alone - choppy sound; move mouse around the screen - sound is perfect! Not really sure what's up there (do you?)?

Also: I still have Vista Home Premium 64bit installed, and the Darwin BootLoader simply listed OS X below Vista in the Darwin Boot menu, and both OS'es booted just fine from there (except the safe mode thing i mentioned in the first paragraph). If you have any idea how to correct that or get around it, I would GREATLY appreciate any and all hints, tips, tricks etc...

Thanks for readin'!!!
