JPCanaverde
Ok, I went do Windows, downloaded Transmac, expanded the .dmg file, right-clicked my HFS+ formatted pendrive, seleccted Format, Format with image. Then I selected the expanded .dmg file. And it is formatting the pendrive with the image. I didn't test it, but it should work. So, now what? Have the pendrive with Snow Leopard DVD Image on it. What do I do with the myHack Installer and the kexts I downloaded? I copy to the pendrive too? But to where? I'm lost. I don't know what to do now. J.B
you need to find a way to boot into that USB drive installer, if you where in an OSX environment already, you would have installed myhack to it and booted from it, since youre not try looking in to installing chameleon to the drives filesystem...possibly using the command line if you are in windows or look into easyBCD and see if it will let you boot the image from the USB stick/windows drive http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/227070-help-installing-osx-on-external-hard-drive/page/2/#findComment-1523258 Share on other sites
JPCanaverde
Cool, I need OS X to install OS X. --' How do I do that? I want to install OS X. If I already had it, I wouldn't be trying to install it... But thanks for your patience. Really. If it wasn't you, I'd be in the same place I started. So, the pendrive doesn't boot because it needs a bootloader. But the DVD is in there, I can acess perfectly to the pendrive, and I can write files if I start Nautilus with root permissions (yes, I'm on Ubuntu Linux again). So, I downloaded Chameleon binaries, extracted it, opened it's folder, went to Optional Extras, Extensions, 10.6 and copied: AppleATIATA.kext IOATAFamily.kext myHack_Installer_1.1.mpkg Into there. I googled and I found some guides to install Chameleon to the pendrive, but they all use OS X. I need to do this from Ubuntu Linux or Windows. I don't have acess to OS X. Please help me... J.B
this is all theoretically, but its the only way i can think over right now: google chameleon and download the latest version (v2 RC4) UNDER LINUX run though its installation instructions, then carry them out using the linux terminal and the target as your USB drive (this is installing files to the root filesystem of the HFS+ USB with the installer on that will allow you to boot it i know i haven't explained very well, like i said its theoretical, but if you check the help the readme you should get a pretty good idea of what to install to your USB Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/227070-help-installing-osx-on-external-hard-drive/page/2/#findComment-1523319 Share on other sites
JPCanaverde
When I run this command with "cd" on the i386 directory of Chameleon Installer (the first of the three commands in the readme): sudo fdisk -f boot0 -u -y /media/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ DVD On my pendrive: Mac OS X Install DVD It shows: -f option not recognized. (plus the available options and some help) So, I delete the -f option. It shows: -u option not recognized. (plus the available options and some help) Again, I delete the -u option. It shows: -y option not recognized. (plus the available options and some help) Finally, I delete the -y option and it shows: (the available options and some help) LOL. I really don't know how can I do this... Is there any other bootloader that it's easier to install to tthe pendrive? Or, can you help me installing this one, please? Well, it's such a hard work just for beggining the installation... I can't imagine after this, lol. J.B
hmm, i just read the thread here and it gave me the idea of using a distro to do what you are trying to do in linux (which obviously doesn't seem to like the OSX terminal commands ) with the USB installer plugged in, boot into the iATKOS distro you said you had and, once booted into it use its terminal utility to install the chameleon files i think you will need to put the chameleon files somewhere are you access in the installers terminal, maybe put them on the actual USB, then use the command line to install it to the files system etc. in itself Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/227070-help-installing-osx-on-external-hard-drive/page/2/#findComment-1523419 Share on other sites
JPCanaverde
LOL. All this work for nothing. There were no options because the disk wasn't formatted with HFS+ and it wasn't boot disk. Made this changes in GParted and voilá. Disk recognized. It is installing now. I'll install the extra kexts (if needed) when I make my first boot to Hack OS X. Mac OS X, meet the PC! Thank you to you all. I'll post here if I have any more questions. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
