Hello, this is my first time trying to install OSX on a pc. It took me several tries, but I finally got a (mostly) successful install using iATKOS s3 v2 distro. I had been trying to get a dual boot going with an external USB drive. This was successful using iATKOS v7, however that installed OSX 10.5.7, and I needed at least 10.6 to use it for iOS development, so it was back to the drawing board. When I would boot of the iATKOS s3 v2 DVD and go into the installer, I could never get the external USB drive to show up in the disk manager. So I gave in, and swapped out my laptop's internal hard drive with the spare one so I could install on that. (I wanted to avoid doing any partitioning on my main hard drive just to reduce risk of loosing anything). I then ran ##### and the OSX updater as the walkthrough said.

Once the install finished, I was able to only boot into SL using safe mode, and only with using the #####-supported bood disk. If I try to boot without safe mode, it runs for a while, but then just goes to a blank screen and is stuck there. If I boot in safe mode with the chameleon boot loader, then safe mode works, but once I get to the login screen I have no mouse (no trackpad and no usb ports working). If I boot with the ##### disk, then my trackpad works, but I still have no usb ports. I also have no sound.

I should also mention that when I had 10.5.7 working, everything worked well. I had usb, sound, trackpad, no mouse needed, etc.

I assume that since I have had all those things working on 10.5.7, it's just a matter of getting the right kexts installed in my 10.6.4 install. I did write down what kexts I used when I installed 10.5.7, is it as easy as downloading all those kexts from the web and manually installing them? Any assistance would be great, thanks!

I also have a HP Laptop (DV7-3183cl) running 10.6.4 with all hardware working.

This is a guide that would be a good idea to look at (Also it will be updated in a few weeks to support 10.6.4):

Guide

Hope this helps!

That looks like a good guide, but do you think it would be applicable? I think the dv7 hardware is pretty different than the dv4.

I do have another question though, is there any way to remove all of the kexts that I chose to install when I did the first install and all the subsequent updates? I've been experimenting with display kexts and feel like now there are multiple drivers installed for the same thing resulting in conflicts. How can I clean this up without wiping it all clean and doing a full install?
