Dell Studio 1749

Hey all,

I've sifted throughout the osx86 wiki and found that there was a couple reports of the dell 17 studios where the user could get OSX loaded, but a ton of features missing. Wifi, being the most important one, along with audio I believe (and some others).

I'm currently running a Dell 1525 running 10.6.3 pretty nicely (using voodooHDA for mic and volume boosting) other than that, everything worked right out of the box (using a retail snow leopard disk and chameleon).

I also read that "no hackintosh will support ATI 5xxx dedicated video cards" so getting the beefed up video card for the studio 17 (5650) is out of question, but was wondering if anyone was able to get 10.6.3 with most features working? (potentially using a dell 17 studio with integrated graphics as an alternate option).

I'd make the move right to a macbook or MBP, but I do agree with most people here in saying that they are pretty over priced. I have a ton of software for my current hackintosh and quite honestly, can't see myself going back to PC development unless a studio 17 is completely out of the question. I've owned 6 previous dell laptops and I really like their quality (and the price point on ebay if something stupid breaks) and I would like to stick with dells.

I'm hopeful for the upgrade for a couple of reasons. One, the 17'' 1920x1080 screen, and two, my girlfriend needs a laptop and would be inheriting my 1525 for her MCAT crapola she has to go through (review course, and overall needing a laptop for studying).

I'm a web developer and the fact of having both operating systems (and having OSX as the main one) is completely invaluable. My work environment is nothing but mac, and would like to keep it that way with my personal laptop.

Didn't know if anyone ran into the same question, or knew of an acceptable working studio 17 or 1749.

Thanks mates. :)

Hi people, I have just got a Dell 1749 i7 and was wondering if I could run any version of osx86 either leopard or s/leopard on it fully functional (ie. with the wifi card, sound and scrollling features) I have old version of leopard 10.5.4 / 6 but have not got a scooby how to install it on this machine. I know my way round a computer but am no expert by a long chalk. I have installed the above previously on two other laptops an acer netbook and samsung Q210 but this one is foxing me bigtime. I have read a number of google article and entries here which tend to suggest osx86 is a dead stick with this type of laptop. Is this true?

If there are any guides a quick pointer would be appreciated or any help really would equally be great. One other thing. I have checked and it appears this pc is capable of hardware virtualization. if I was able to install osx86 on this machine would this mean I would be able to run windows programs virtualy within it in programs such as crossover and the like?

Thanks very much.

B.
