NVidia 9500GT in 10.6.3

Hello everyone, I've been a forum reader for quite a while now, and every issue I've run into I was able to resolve by searching through existing posts. Now I've hit a problem that I can't seem to get past, I've been losing my hair because of it for about 2 weeks now.

I built a desktop PC out of old equipment, and to my surprise it loaded up iAtkosS3v2 with minimal effort and everything important working with one exception. I cannot get the video card to work with acceleration or the be able to change resolutions. The system specs are in my signature. I'm using a DVI to VGA adapter to connect to a 19" LCD monitor.

All options that actually result in injected and loaded kexts cause the boot to appear to hang *just* before when the blue screen should show up (I have -v in com.apple.Boot.plist) and the screen flickers indefinitely. I searched here and Google at-large to see if anyone else described a "flicker" and didn't find anything similar to my issue. It is literally that, though. The boot text freezes, there's 1 quick flick, a pause (about 1-2 seconds) and then screen flickers. The text doesn't blur and there's no change to the screen otherwise.

I have tried so many things, but I'll try to recall and summarize:

  • I had initially used AsereBLNv1.1.9, but after some unrelated boot partition issues I am now using PC_EFI10.6. Results are the same with both.
  • Only remotely successful item: I can set different resolutions using the GraphicsMode boot flag.
  • Even without any injectors or loaders, I see the NVDAHAL50 load and register in the boot up log
  • GraphicsEnabler=Yes
  • With GraphicsEnabler=Yes (and Wait=Yes) I can see the card properly recognized in the pre-boot output.
  • CoreVidia 1.1
  • NVEnabler
  • EFI String (built from a german post about 9500GT to get the NVCAP value.)
  • I started to try to patch my DSDT, but I can't get very far because IORegistryExplorer never shows an NVCAP value.

No matter which method I try (if it will boot at all) System Profiler has never listed the card properly.

At this exact moment (EFI String in place, GraphicsEnabler=Yes or No), the system seems to boot fine (no acceleration though) unless I add the card identifier to NVDAResman.kext--this 100% causes the boot hang and screen flicker.

Any ideas? I'd really appreciate someone's help with this.

Thanks!

You would think I'd at least be able to find the right forum to post this in, but I must have fried too many brain cells trying to find a solution. Can someone move this to the NVidia 9500gt topic or PM me how to do it myself?
