Hey guys, I'm running a i7-930 on a P6T MB. While I thought this was initially compatible for OSX, its been a pain trying to OSX on it. There's a couple of threads that require a lot of monkeying with kexts and a special version of Leopard to get this to work. I've never had any luck, not even getting close, like getting the install disk, or usb thumb drive to boot up.

So with that said, can anyone recommend a motherboard that will work with a minimum of fuss, i.e., no messing with kexts and works out of the box. I've been leaning towards ASUS in the past but if gigbyte is a better option, I'm open to that as well.

Here's what I do have and running btw.

Core i7-930

nVidia GTX-260

6 gig of ram

500 gig HD (WD)

Buying decision - ASAP, once I have a solid choice of what will work.

Gigabyte is a much better choice – I'd go with the X58A-UD5 or one of the other variants of it.

Thanks, for the info.

I've only found guides/info for the X58-UD5 and not the X58A-UD5. Is the X58a markedly different then its older brother?

I found two guides, one was the katewalk method which looked like it was right up my alley and the other which was a little more involved. My main concern for the kakewalk method is that the X58A-UD5 is not specifically mentioned in the thread, just the X58-UD5

Awesome thanks

Yikes, the recent comments over at NewEgg have me rethinking this MB choice, while some of the recent posts are related to its inability to run with a hex-core, I see a high percentage of DOA, bent pins etc.

These types of comments was why I gravitated over to Asus but my current MB the P6T isn't as compatible as I first believed it would be.

Comming from an Ex Gigabyte user - They are very easy to overclock but if this doesn't bother you, I am appreciating my MSI (allbeit p45 chipset.) experiance much more.

Problem being there are few guides for MSI boards, however the 2 P45 boards I've insatlled on where very easy to get going!

If it where an Asus/ Gigabyte standoff - I'd go for the Asus. The couple of Asus boards I've used have been more friendly and there are plenty of guides/users.

Whatever you get just make sure you go over everything first to check for compatability.

The last thing you want is some abscure audio chipset or NIC that's going to be an utter pain in the backside everytime you update.

I am leaning towards ASUS, and I'm trying to decide if I want the P6X58-Premium, P6X58D-E or the P6T Deluxe though I'm leaning towards the P6X58 (-E or Premium).

All good. Looking at the P6T Deluxe V2. you probably have more luck with audio as2000b audio chipsetas apposed to the alc889 (not alc889a !!) on the other two ..

Thanks for the heads up, I was wondering about that myself. I didn't know that the as200b would be better, but I've seen a number of posts about audio issues with the alc889.
