Help an idiot update to 10.6.4

Alright, I'm running 10.6 on a g31m-es2l, with a 9600gt and an e5200. Beyond that, I've no bloody idea anymore. I installed using the "snowleo" distro on a certain bay of pirates.

What's the safest way of updating without breaking the install? I need to get xcode up and running and I've not got any drives big enough to back stuff up on.

Distros suck, seriously. Vanilla ftw.

New install with time machine + mobileme:

http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...10.6.4#Gigabyte

According to that (if your mobo is v2.0), do a vanilla install.

Best & Easiest way for a vanilla install IMO is ##### + #####.

Youll need the 10.6.0 disc from apple for $30 (or the disk from another source).

According to it... everything should work.

Note: you /will/ have to do some digging of your own.

i think youll need: LegacyHDA_ALC883, AppleHDA 10.6.2, NVEnabler, apparently "AtherosL1cEthernet.kext", fakesmc, EvOreboot, LegacyAppleRTC, NullCPUPowerManagement, Chamelon 2.0 RC4, com.apple.boot.plist: 32-bit Apple Boot Screen, smbios.plist: iMac11,1 (Core i7).

^ That is a non-DSDT method (some of the kexts i chose are guesses), non "#####". Use the link, and find that "AtherosL1cEthernet.kext".

If you really don't want to lose the install... uhh sorry I can't help you.

Edit: =.=

are you serious.

If you looked at the comments to the torrent you downloaded, the ULer stated to use comboupdates.

Imagine me doing a confused shrug right now. I have absolutely no idea what that you mean by comboupdates, other than what apple software update has in it right now. Which I assume will break my machine.
