travis_v10
First of all, sorry for the semi-double post! I posted this originally in the wrong section >.< Hello everyone! I know my account is relatively new, but I've been with the OSx86 scene for a while now. Probably started here around late 2008? Just as some background, the laptop I'm typing on is running iPC 10.5.6 (compaq presario c714nr-- PM me for install instructions! ) anyway. I've never been able to get any version of OS X running nicely with my PC. My specs: GA-MA78GM-S2H (Gigabyte mothermoard) nVidia e-GeForce 8600 GT 6 gb RAM - two different brands. if it's important I can look it up. AMD Athlon x2 4000+ and I just upgraded to a AMD Phenom II 965 Black Edition quad core processor and now whenever I load up a distro (tried about 6), I can't even get past loading Darwin! In Leopard distros, such as Kalyway, I get a voodoo kernel panic at the apple logo and with snow leopard I can't even reach that logo. I've tried booting with -x -v -f all that and busratio=20 and cpus=1 but none have been successful. Oh btw when I load Darwin, it just restarts my computer. Is there a fix for this? It worked really well until I updated my BIOS and got the new processor. I'm thinking maybe I don't have my BIOS setup correctly? I'm in ACHI mode and everything. Thank you so much, -Travis
imiraj
Dont use distros, use vanilla install. Check your parts with HCL and their method of installation
travis_v10
Wow thanks for the amazing advice! First off AMD machines need a modified kernel and cannot run on vanilla. Also not using a distro doesn't change how Darwin loads >.> (for the most part)
