iDeneb 10.5.8 - minor issues

I originally setup my laptop for dual boot between Windows 7 and OSX 10.5.8 about 6-9 months ago. Since then, I haven't been tweaking or attempting to fix the minor issues I have with OSX, so my knowledge of how I have everything setup is a little faded and rusty. :-/

 

I'm using a Gateway ML-6720 laptop, using AzereBLN on iDeneb. I created a DSDT file using linux and have AzereBLN loading it on boot up. iDeneb is the only version of OSX86 I've been able to get working on this laptop. All other versions either don't work at all, or have issues such as the keyboard and touchpad not working -- regardless of which kexts or patches I use to address those issues... so I'd rather not attempt installing other builds

 

For the most part, my system is running great. It doesn't crash or lockup and all of my hardware seems to work fine.

 

However, my restart and shutdown functions are reversed. If I tell my laptop to shutdown, it'll reboot. If I tell it to reboot, it'll shutdown. My system does not work with sleep, so I've disabled hibernation using pmset. I was tired of seeing messages about old hibernation files during boot up. I'm not sure what would happen if I closed the lid, and since I'm in the middle of typing this, I don't want to try right now. :-) But I can live without clamshell and sleep functions.

 

The only other annoyance I have is that my system seems to do a scan of my dvd drive about every 10-15 minutes... but only if there's no disk in there. At first, I didn't care... but now it's just annoying hearing it do a "brrr errt" twice every so often. My wooden desk amplifies the sound...

 

I realize these are minor issues, but I'd really like my OSX to work as it should. If anyone could give me some suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. All of the searching I have done doesn't seem to pan out. "Restart" and "Shutdown" searches always return results dealing with these functions not working at all.
