hurleytom
Below is a list of my attempts to install iPC 10.5.6 on my system. Note that although I'm using two identical GFX cards (which from reading posts online apparently makes installing OSX impossible) I was able to successfully install Kalyway 10.5.2 about 18 months ago! Sadly I have no of memory of how I did this but I certainly didn't go through the agony I've had this time! First, my system: MB: Abit IN9 32x-MAX CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz RAM: 2 x Corsair TWIN2X 6400 DDR2 and 1 x Transcend DDR2 PC2-6400 800 MHz GFX: 2 x Club3D GeForce 8600GTS 256MB GDDR3 HDD #1: WD Caviar SE16 500GB SATA2 16MB 7200RPM HDD #2: WD Caviar Black 1TB SATA, 32MB Cache, Dual Processor, 7200RPM Below I'll state what patches/extensions I chose to install during each attempt and the resulting error message when booting: Attempt #1: Voodoo kernal, NVInject 0.2.0 Dual Cards Resulting Error: "Still waiting for root device" Attempt #2: Voodoo kernal, NVInject 0.2.0 Dual Cards, AppleNForceATA Resulting Error: "No network interfaces, couldn't update platform UUID" Attempt #3: Voodoo kernal, NVInject 0.2.0 Dual Cards, AppleNForceATA, Forcedeth nForce4 LAN driver Resulting Error (with external USB hard drive plugged IN): "AppleUSBEHCI: Found a transaction past the completion deadline on bus 0x2b, timing out!" Resulting Error (with external USB hard drive plugged OUT): "disk0s6: data underrun" ** At this point I removed the external USB hard drive for all further attempts. Attempt #4: Voodoo kernal, NVInject 0.2.0 Dual Cards, AppleNForceATA, nForce LAN Driver Resulting Error: boot stalls after "nForceLAN: Ethernet address <mac address>" (Note: the actual mac address appeared where I've written "<mac address>" above) Attempt #5: Voodoo kernal, NVInject 0.2.0 Dual Cards, AppleNForceATA, Forcedeth V Variation Resulting Error: boot stalls after "com.triton.forcedeth: Ethernet address <mac address>" Attempt #6: Stage XNU kernal, NVInject 0.2.0 Dual Cards, AppleNForceATA, Forcedeth nForce4 LAN Driver, Patch DSDT, All apps except 'Marvin's AMD Utility' installed Resulting Error: "disk0s6: data underrun" Attempt #7: Voodoo kernal Resulting Error: "Still waiting for root device" Attempt #8: Voodoo kernal, NVInject 0.2.0 Dual Cards, AppleNForceATA, nForce Ethernet Driver Resulting Error: "com_nvidia_ethernet: Ethernet address <mac address>" From these attempts I conclude that either the LAN drivers are crashing after loading or whatever tries to load after them is stalling the boot. If anyone has any ideas or has managed to install 10.5.6 on my motherboard please let me know! I'll continue to add the results of further attempts below. hurleytom
Attempt #9: Voodoo kernel, Legacy GeForce Drivers, AppleNForceATA, nForce LAN Driver Resulting Error: boot hangs after "nForceLAN: Ethernet address <mac address>" I then tried something different: in stead of booting with "-f -v" I tried booting with "-x -v cpus=1". This got the system to boot with the usual first run screens. After the initial setup, when I reboot now with "-v" it hangs at "AppleNForceATA: free (0x?????)" (The "???" being a hex number I didn't write down). sirbow2
if your bios allows it you should try to change in between AHCI mode and IDE mode for your HD's(it may fix your root device error but it is more likely you didnt select the right chipset). i would also recommend to try to install 10.5.2 kallyway and find out what kexts you need to get 10.5.2 to work then select those same kexts on ipc. it is also possible that ipc doesn't have the required kexts for your system. Hope it helps! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/225435-ipc-1056-on-abit-in9-32x-max-disaster/#findComment-1513180 Share on other sites
