I need to do HD video editing, HQ photo and graphics creation & editing as well as being a possible Final Cut Server for my real iMac. If you want to use this with different applications, get yourself a 60GB SSD as bootdisk, this will speed up more than overclocking the CPU...raid0 the samsungs and videoediting is fine...the i7 should get to 3.6 without problems and the machine will be faster than any single processor MacPro. Soundcard: usb version! and you will never get problems with sound after snowleopard updates... How could i forget a copy of SL!? I had it in my other list before I pasted it on here - oh well Do you think it is worth going for a dual processor mobo, with two i7s? I mean that's some serious processing power there but is it worth the expense of an extra £430 (minus the orig mobo) cheers. Mackilroy Posted July 17, 2010 Share Posted July 17, 2010 I'd keep what you have, dual-processor configurations are rare, and you wouldn't have nearly as much support as you would if you kept what you had listed (that, and the only dual-processor Macs use Xeons, not Core i7 processors). PoloBear Posted July 17, 2010 Share Posted July 17, 2010 There are some guys running Snow on Dual xeons on EVGA SR2, but you cant use cheap overclocked i7s, you need really expensive xeons starting @1 grand each...you can overclock them at least but for me, i don´t think its worth it... handbrake and visualhub really scale with cores and clock, but I dont do as much rendering, $3000 expense to save 5 minutes on a 20 minutes job....your call... michebre Posted December 24, 2010 Share Posted December 24, 2010 Hi can you please tell me the specific corsiar ram you have listed for the GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard. There are a few ram configs by Corsair for this Motherboard. Which is the fastest you recommend? Product number would be helpful if possible.
