Still waiting for root device error

hello,

i am using a gateway t-1625 laptop with the following specs

 

Processor AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-60

2.0 GHz | 512 KBx2 L2 cache

HyperTransport™ technology up to 1600 MHz

 

Chipset ATI RS690T

 

Memory 2048 MB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM (2 × 1024)

 

Video controller ATI Radeon® X1270 graphics

Up to 256 MB of HyperMemory™

 

However, i can get past the still waiting for root device error. does anyone know a solution to this problem. Ive tried many different boot options none of them worked.
